I was completely against joining any private schools, although all my siblings were in the National Private School (Watania) for many years, but I was so stubborn to settle in one school.

Plus a Quran School of one of our relatives that I used to attend since I was 4 years in our summer holidays when we come back to Oman, and also when we settled back in Oman till the age of 12 and there when I was done with the reading of Quran and memorising it too.

Hala chaty,

LOL the truth will shock you that I was the complete opposite of ME now when I was young in schools.

My profile always consists the below words with no exaggerating:

Very quiet
Very calm
Clever and hard working

Although I always doubted my self but there you go a good profile worked for my own and my mother will always question the teachers many time about my quietness, as to her I was so talkative and I am extra NOW.

LOL at the part learning under the tree, I have never experienced that but I have experienced learning the Quran in the back yard of our relatives with hundreds of other kids whom I have nothing in common with them and they always thought I was an alien to them.

sallam,

Tent schools are schools the same as any normal school but instead of having a specific structure or buildings that are designed for education they had tents in the old days to teach students/kids.

As we all know that in the 70+ they were only 3 official schools in Oman, 2 in Muscat and 1 in Salalah.

So education was very important, even HM Sultan Qaboos was pushing for it and his popular saying "the most important thing is education even if it was under the tree".

As Oman has a hot climate, so tents were provided as shelters and to keep the sun away from the teachers and the students heads.

how many students in a tent?

how long do they stay under the tent during hot sunny days? how months a year? Is the teacher who taught you there still alive?

how many subjects were given at that time?

SHARE MORE!
or do i have to open a thread for this :mmhmm:

solafai read about the education in the early 70's in mosque's and all but havent read or heard of the tent...that's why im curious!

Sweety,

I am not the right person to give you the exact details, may be we should wait for Fahad and Toomuchat to give us more information, especially they been there before. :)

It will be a good idea if you started a new thread, so no one will get confused in here plus more freedom to ask more questions without going off topic. :)

Well in 1985, Seeb area had an elementary school by the sea (currently a new fish market built there). The school was wooden and small. Grade 1 students used to study outside the school in tents. The tent was very big with fans but no A/C. The best thing about it was easier to escape, faster to get to shop during break time and faster to reach the bus when classes are over.

the floor was not concrete but on sand. We moved to wooden room in 2nd grade. It had A/C and everything....

I think it's really useless to mention the names of schools you attended without mentioning the academic years you've done in those schools. I thought the purpose of the thread in first place is to know who from members attended school with you and nobody would be able to know that without knowing the academic year the member attended that school.

Anyhows.. I've done with school this year and I spent those 12 years of school in two schools equally.
