Dowry is always a problem for guys to gt married, espcially in our region.

.. let's say the law has changed in favor of men.. meaning that the lady is the one who pays the dowry to the man!!

Actually, Dowry Means : Money or property brought by a woman to her husband at marriage.

it really doesn't make sense..it's a man thing to pay and you know, make sure she gets all she needs, ya3ni (i mean) imagine she goes through all the trouble to get the money..it just isn't right!

I think the reason women pay dowry is that it's supposed to be an installment on all that money the man is going to pay over the years to support her. Sort of like filling the tank with gasoline when you give someone a new car!

It's more for the groom's family that is expecting to be paying a lot of money to both of them over the first few years.

The only thing we have left over from that in America is that it is still the tradition to have the wedding in the bride's home town and the bride's family pays for all of it except the rehearsal dinner (which the groom's family pays for.) And of course, not too many people even follow this tradition any more.

for me, i saw how men suffer these days because of dowry, so if the thing switches, i wouldnt ask for much, just like i dont want to pay that much....

i think this thing should exist, but keep it at minimum level...

i dont like the dowry thing in the first place never really got the meaning to it, either way i feel like whether its here in the arab world a women is being bought really, or in other places a man is being bought...
people have tried to explain to me is a way of protecting a women incase of anything... but i think not, in many cases not a single thing of the dowry stays with the women after she is married, either goes to her family, or to her husband, whether its by force, or out of love and pity!
