They say writing things down help you memorize or get it into your mind more than merely reading it.

when you read something... do you usually understand it right away or do you read it over again?...

They say reading does only 10% of understanding something. How true/ false is that?

Well I rely a lot on reading and learning if it's something for school...And I like memory boosters like abbreviations that are easy to remember. They make learning stuff much easier. Sometimes while reading novels however, I may be thinking about something else and I lose my concentration, and after that I don't absorb a word I had read. So I have to go and read it all again with more concentration.

I think your last statement is a bit false. There are some school subjects, like Literature and Maths for example, that can only be completely grasped by a mixture of concentration and understanding and writing has nothing to do in such a case.

i only need to hear it to memorize something but writing it doesnt help me at all ... :)

I mostly read and understand unless if it needs math, then I use writing.

it's all about concentration really..when you really concentrate on what you're reading you won't have to re-read it or write it down..sometimes when I'm reading something i get caught up in the idea and i start thinking about it while continuing to read so then..when i wake up :mmhmm: I'll have to re-read it cause i wasn't really paying attention to what i was reading.

i've heard that long ago there was this man who used to immediately cover the next page of the book he was reading afraid that by taking a glance at it, he might memorize it before it's turn! :os
now thats a huge amount of concentration he's got..which could be very handy right now..with exams and all :XD:

Footnotes Are very important for me as I note down almost everything I hear when I am in a meeting so I wont forget what to do .Sometimes I go what the Hell what did I just write !!!!once I am back at my office that is .

I like to write down notes so I know what I have to do, this is specially at work and study

When I am reading for my free time, I usually write down the things that catch my attention and find it special !

But personally, I remember things more when I write it
