I think yes...we only drink water to make it easy, not because water affects the pill, I guess.

Many just take it just like that, without drinking anything.

I always drink pills with any liquids and I'm still alive lol.. I think the main idea of drinking liquids while taking pills is to make it easier to swallow I guess.

I think it's the best to take it with a little bit of water or juice .. Taking pills without any liquids looks suspicious to me and wrong .. I'm not sure about it but it's my instinct ..
I don't think drinking hot liquid is a good idea . .

I don't think it matters what liquid but maybe perhaps water is the most common solvent found.. you don't need any special liquids... I'm not sure if it has anything to do with dissolving the pill, as its gonna disolve anyway when its in the stomach. I guess its just to make it easier to swallow.

what I don't get though is why can't we just crush the pills, stir them in a cup of water and drink it instead of just swallowing the pill?

water or juice would be best, but not fizzy drinks (yah i actully know someone who drinks it with dew :s). as the members above said, you drink it with liquids to make it easier to swallow

Yes, it is fine

However, certain drugs can't be taken with certain drinks, for example Tetracyline is not to be taken with milk

i guess taking it with water is like being on the safe side..you don't want to be mixing stuff that you shouldn't and end up blowing right? :dev:

also grapefruit is not advisable for some drugs cause it raises their availability in the body in shorter time and can lead to negative effects
Is good habit when you take a medicine to give a quick look at instructions and check interactions [with other medicines or food]

Why can't people just suffice with water and just drink it? wuts wrong with it anyway? why overly complicate things with other beverages?

Yes indeed
Hitman brought an example which can be matched with iron also
Tetracicline have a particular chemical structure so that if you take it with milk or at the same time with an iron supplement, they combine together and the tetracicline levels slightly reduce
Might not happen in a significant way, but considering that is an antibiotic and it must act in few days, it will damage the outcome of the cure and it will take more time
On the other side, grapefruit interferes with a biochemical process involving Cit P450
To say it in simple words, if given regularly with statins for example, it enhances their bioavailibility
Statins are medicines which keep cholesterol levels in a normal range and those who use it, do it for a long time, most probably for a lifetime
As one of the side effects of these drugs is rabdomiolisis [break of muscle cells], it might happen, although in the end if you check yourself regularly your doctor will monitor always your ck levels which are connected to muscle well being
Living in an hot country where juices are the only alternative to water, is indeed an argument not to forget while taking medicines
