Yes, I knew about it. Infact there was a high official meeting in Oman earlier this year.

But then again, I take a keen interest in tsunamis as they are something I have a phobia for. I have recurring nightmares of it.

The night the asian tsunami happened on Dec 26th I had had a dream that I put my feet down to get off the bed and I was knee deep in water. My bedroom is 3 floors up. Imagine my shock when I awake at 3 am and turn on CNN and see the breaking news coverage of the tsunami... it was terrifying to see the real thing.

If authorities answer to every Tom Dick and Harry who comes out with foolish things there would be also more confusion
Why not calling for a more responsible attitude from citizens and try to educate them with a better information?

" better information " to whom YOU :-)), or should i pass it by to you before I put it in the sabla, so you signe and stamp it, as approvel its better information, and should be puplished for the citizen,,,Second, I believe they are responsible enough, that they care of their own security, and they have their own minds to value things, unless you think they don't. Then its your responsibility to convince them if you are so sure of your believes, not act like a order comander.

I hear it tells me, trust me sweety, I may get upset from time to time, and you can feel me when I am really furious , but it is mainly rumors, cuz the king of winds is giving me a visit for few days. You know that king of wind is an enemy to queen of pentacles. I am natural my only enemy is the king of fire, put I will be pressured out by the king of winds to help him against his enemy. He may piss me off for a while, threating me to help my enemy king of fire to evaporate me but I love you more then I hate them you know I will never do this to the place you love put I may just play with some waves.

There's a special unit within ROP for natural disasters and emergency plans
If people were informed about what to do through meeting in schools and workplaces for example, they wouldn't be so keen to believe to the first idiot who comes out with such jokes and would be prepared to do the right moves in the eventuality of an emergency involving the entire population

An earthquake measuring below 7 on the Richter scale is less dangerous, especially when its epicentre is far from residential areas. Earthquake-prone areas which might cause Tsunami in the Sultanate are situated in the Indian Ocean and Sumatra island in Indonesia. Tsunami waves that may hit the Sultanate will have minor impact, such as the one witnessed in the Dhofar region during the last tsunami.
The Gulf of Oman falls within the earthquake area, but it is quieter than Iran. Nobody can predict an earthquake, because it can take place randomly at any time. There might, or might not be, any indicator for this phenomenon.

if no one died from the last Tsunami with hundred thousand of people, omanies wouldn't care about the rumors. If those people where told by their governement to clear the place, do you think they won't always trust their governement. Now after this event, do you think they will ever believe what the government ever announce ( they lost their reputation of being honest with the people) , so they don't have any other thing to believe except rumors. I don't mean its right what they do, but they can investigate if the rumor is right or wrong...and guess what usually its mixed truth. So you got to act clever and don't deny it or believe it totally. You should search for reliable information to what may be acceptable. Even if you research sometimes you miss things.

Oman is at high risk
there are scientific teams who study this
local authorities have a plan in case of emergency

an indian psichic [or a couple of young Omanis with lot of free time] comes out with "tomorrow is the end of the world"
and the average citizen is gonna lose faith in his/her government ?
