All the RPG fans out there who played RPGs before...

what do you think of how RPGs were before in comparison to the RPGs we have today?

In what is it better and in what is it worse?

old is gold
FF had no sequels n now FF7 has tons of sequels/prrquels/midquels.....etc(god knows what else) n i dont even have to talk about FFX-2

coz at first they can make a great long satisfying story in one game
now its a boring story in many games
like FF7 is my fav FF game(no im NOT a fanboy) but most of those sequels has boring stories
advent children was fun but the story was REALLY bad
n the story of DIRGE OF CERBERUS was just boring
n now they are continuing things with FF13 with FABULA NOVA CRYSTALLIS:COMPILATIONS OF FINAL FINAL FANTASY XIII
but the the good thing about the compilations of FF13 is that each game has a different story
KH is an exception coz it was meant to have sequels in the first place

FF advent children was a bad story?
i think the plan of sepheroth coming back was good... what perhaps brought it down was it would've been better to focus on desplaying the story in an understandable way.
those who didn't play the game wouldn't have understood half of it. but well yeah...

but these days the SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI games are the best

I'll mentioned a few i used to play on nintendo which had stories that beat all the stories made today...

And another game that included a guy with a dog... forgot the name.

Another thing i realized... Old RPG games are harder to finish and INCREDIBLY longer than the recent ones.

..i find them way more interesting. nowadays it's really hard to find a game with a good story..or thats how i see it :rolleyes:

now thanx to online games,developers make games with 0% story !
thats why i dont like online games n dont support them at all !
i just like good adventure RPGs or adventure action games which is hard to find these days !
even the last few rpgs i played other than FF12 and KH2 had shallow stories n didnt really make you wana play just to know what happens !
a good story isnt very important in games but to me its something that will make me enjoy the game ALOT more if implemented correctly !

KH isnt childish
it SEEMS so but the story is actually deeper than you think
dont judge a book by its cover !and dont let the disney charecters cloud your judgement ! ;)

The old one had a better storyline and was much more difficult to complete, while the new ones although easier have better graphics and better game play.

I guess I like them 'both' (as most of you say in many of my threads lol) for what they were in their own time.

yeah yasir..i had the same impression about the Disney characters lol..it was kinda lame and somehow childish to have Donald duck and Goofy as your party members..but once you get into it you get to kinda love their presence :cute:

they're funny and the add something to the game :yes:

I know KH isn't childish, I watched someone playing it, I wasn't referring to it when I said childish :XD:
many games have interesting stories but the gameplay makes you bored! Hit me, hit you style sucks :XD: thats why I dont play Final Fantasy

there are two types of hit u, hit me in FF... you can either leave it on free mode... considered more difficult... where the enemy will hit you any time and you have to press the commands quick...
or you put it on wait.... where the enemy won't hit you until you're done giving commands
true... it's a type of battle-play I'm not all the way fond of... but it's strategy AND when you get stronger you get more options.

if you don't like FF way of fighting, that'll mean you don't like Heroes either... and you don't like Suikoden...
Heroes is one of the best that deals with warfare and Suikoden's one of the best known RPG games... lol..

I am more into games that are similar to Quest for Glory, the last one.. Pirates of the Caribbean, the black pearl.. All are RPGz with free fighting style, tough, but cool :D

heys, the ones you mention are considered action/adventure...
RPG games are different in the point that there are resting moments.... and fighting moments, fun moments etc.
games like POTC may have breaks where they show the story but when you actually play... you play fighting.

When you play Zelda for example... sometimes you're given tasks to look for things in town or go elswhere in the map... or rest the night... you have the option... that's why even if its fighting is freestyle... it's considered an RPG...

no no quest for glory is considered a pure RPG game, same as Pirates of the Caribbean, btw I am talking about the first game, its not related to the movie, it only has its title, no jack sparrow or whatever his name is :p

if you dont like TURN-BASED RPGs and prefer ACTION RPGs then try KH or ROGUE GALAXY
also FINAL FANTASY XII has a mixture of action and turn based so check it out

and after the success of the movie they revamped the ride to be more similar to the movie and included models shaped EXACTLY like the actors ! :)

books are a beauty... you surely have to write a script BEFORE making the movie... i just thought the script was made from a book because that's what movies are usually made from... books...
doesn't meet all else is crappy... it means that MAKING a movie out of something OTHER than a book is amazing... because it takes a lot of imagination and is a challenging process... and as you see... is an amazing movie...

I don't think so. They came up with the idea of the movie from the ride and developed it from there and THEN after the movie they came up with the game.

i liked those games alot, im not sure about the new ones, didnt like them that much (saw them but didnt play them)...

Some sequels are better than the original, like in the case of banjo kazooie, Banjo tooie is so much better and much more entertaining and difficult. I really loved that one. It is considered an RPG right? lol

Well I'm not a fan of anything FF related, I think it's an extremely overrated franchise so I wouldn't know and I honestly doubt I'll ever want to know. :p

Umm not really .. i mean it's not fair to say the oldies are the good ones and there aren't good NEW ones .. I believe both NEW & OLD are appreciated .. But i mean to me ( i guess i am old fashioned ) i really loved the old RPG's .. Had a different taste to me ..
