View Full Version : [PS] Old Sony Consoles?
TripleTee 06-05-07, 11:00 PM From all the consoles I remember... nintendo had the oldest I know... nintendo had....
nintendo
super nintendo
nintendo 64
gamecube
so what about the PS???
was the oldest the PS?? or was there older?
doesn't this mean the release of PSs can be considered a new thing?...or is there history I'm unaware of?
I believe Playstation 1 is the oldest. I don't think that sony released any gaming consoles before that one.
NiGhTFaCe 06-05-07, 11:08 PM Sony worked with Nintendo before going into developing the PlayStation. Check this, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation
yasirb51 06-05-07, 11:09 PM the Nintendo 64 was supposed to support the CD format
so nintendo went to sony and told them to make help them make it
and when sony got it ready and wanted to show it to nintendo, nintendo said they already made a deal with some other company
Ken Kutaragi (the father of the PS) was very mad of this and decided to simply release the console they made for nintendo by themselves, which they did and they called it the PLAYSTATION
which was the spark in the NEW console war
Nintendo took sega down(making sonic games for new nintendo systems is just degrading for SEGA) and they made a new enemy with sony
although PS defeated the N64 (overall although the N64 was pretty successful) and the PS2 honestly crushed the GAMECUBE it seems the Wii is stronger than PS3 AT THE MOMENT
TripleTee 06-05-07, 11:12 PM nabs, yeah I thought so too.
ooo, didn't know that... thanks for the link NF...can this be considered some sort of betrayal?
ok yasir.... so it's revenge :XD:
yasirb51 06-05-07, 11:19 PM lolz yeh T it kinda is
coz nintendo made the deal with sony and sony worked hard for them and then they simply tell sont that they told another company
what would you do if your friend asked you to something for him/her and after you work hard on it and give it to that person he/she tells you that he/she already told sum1 else ! :p
It's not really a betrayal. Sony wanted to use CDs and Nintendo didn't so they went for a company that offered what they wanted. One of the main reasons I preferred the N64 over PS1 back on 1996 was because I personally preferred cartridges over CDS, and to this date I have those cartridges and they work perfectly fine as if they were brand new...while the CDs of the PS1 we had are mostly all scratched up and ruined.
TripleTee 06-05-07, 11:27 PM yasir: definitely teach them a lesson...
so they created PS eh?... and PS is doing so well now... so thumbs up to them.
it seems sony is the youngest console company in that case...
what are the oldest PS games...
on which console was FF1, 2, and 3?
nabs: you know why they chose CDs?... innit because CDs can take a lot more space that cartridges?... which means better graphics and games i deem.
see miyamoto couldn't make Zelda in better graphics because the cartridge wasn't efficient enough for that or so I heard. but you're right... it lasts a lot longer.
yasirb51 06-05-07, 11:44 PM no the XBOX is the youngest console
yasirb51 06-05-07, 11:45 PM ALL FF games were on nintendo systems but FF7 is the first FF on a non-nintendo system which was very shocking back in the days
its coz square needed the CD format for all their FMVs
although FF seems to be bound to the PS at first it was bound to nintendo
TripleTee 06-05-07, 11:48 PM ahhaaaa... that's whyyyy...
so in other words PS used to be nintendo... and now they changed due to different setting demands.
one more Q...
are all PS games extracted from nintendo?
yasirb51 06-05-07, 11:50 PM no many PS games were made just for PS in the first place
like CRASH BANDICOOT n some other games
TripleTee 06-05-07, 11:52 PM Crash used to be Sony's main figure like Super Mario was for Nintendo...
I heard they changed it (thank god).... but I',m not sure what they changed it to.
yasirb51 07-05-07, 01:03 AM lolz sony doesnt have a mascot
MASTER CHIEF is to me the mascot of XBOX ! :p
MorphaKnight 07-05-07, 02:21 AM As far as I know from videogame history, when Sega designed the sega CD (an add on for the genesis), nintendo wanted to create an add on cd for the Super Nintendo as well as a console with CD capability. They went on to have a deal with sony (who at the time, created the sound card for the SNES), however sony wanted to profit from the CD format by having nintendo pay royalties and expensive licensing fees. It wasn't only nintendo that had to pay the fees, but also 3rd party developers. As the console was almost finished, nintendo decided to terminate the contract between them and sony and instead went on with philips.
Obviously sony got pissed and decided to create their own console which is the playstation. The advantage of the playstation was the obvious large space in the CD as well as its leniency with 3rd party developers. Back in the old days, Nintendo was very strict in its relations with 3rd party developers, where they could only release a certain number of games within a year as well as other tight contracts. They had this idea of "either you follow what I say or you GTFO". As soon as the playstation was becoming more known, many 3rd party developers moved on to create games for the playstation which made it successful.
(to be fully honest though, its because of sony's leniency it has caused many developers to create way too many games that are just too crappy.. this reminds me of atari back when they caused the crash of the videogame sales back in the early 80's by creating too many games that are just trash)
