There is a misconception that diabetics can't eat sweets at all

They can consume dates but in moderation

Diabetes is a silent killer with serious complications, but a lot of factors play a role when it comes to it's management, many diabetics can be just managed with lifestyle changes without drugs, so how strict the diet should be depends from one patient to another

Check the link for more about Diabetic Diet (http://www.lifeclinic.com/focus/diabetes/diet.asp)

Fruits contain the sugar known as Fructose which does not cause a sudden rise in the blood sugar & is good for Diabetics

But high fiber fruits are advised (like plums) as well as Citrus fruits

Whether harmful or not can only be decided after knowing the full blood chemistry of the patient, his weight, his glycaemic control for the last 3 months, so the amount that is suitable for each patient depends on those factors, moderate for one might not be moderate for another

Thats generally true, but isn't fructose can be easily burnt ? I mean can it really affect much on diabetic people since there is no harm if they can be burnt from simple moves.

Hi there Dark Project,

That is a great question & I hope most read the answer

Stress does not cause Diabetes, this is a misconception among many. However, stress can affect the already existing condition of the patient

Imagine a dog is chasing Mr X & he flees, that will increase his blood sugar because he needs energy but because his is a diabetic (whether type 1 or type 2) he either lacks or does not produce enough insulin so his blood sugar goes high

This is how stress affects the blood sugar & can deteriorate the glycaemia of an individual, being it physical stress, emotional..etc

But stress itself does not cause diabetes, no way no how

We should be careful about what we eat & be very conscious nowadays especially where many products have big labels on them saying "low fat" "low sugar" "no sugar"..etc

What happens is that the label says low fat & the individual eats 3 packs rather than just 1 thinking that it is low fat so he won't be harmed as much, but that's not true because in the end it's the number of the calories that matter

Same goes for Fructose, which has calories, so more more of it can make the diabetic take more calories

More calories means weight gain & that means less Insulin sensitivity & more chances of developing type 2 Diabetes or deteriorating an already existing one
