How bad is it to hold yourself from urinating?
I heard different versions of medical theories.. some said it goes back to your stomach and acts like dirt and so is dangerous for your health, others said it is good in terms of tightening your vagina :os
Anything concrete? Or is it okay to hold in your urine?
How bad is it to hold yourself from urinating?
It is quite as it can have serious consequences

1- Urine can never go into the stomach, no way, now how. The only way it can is by oral intake
A) Holding urine will lead to urinary tract infection & recurrent infections can lead to more serious infection of the kidneys & scarring
B) Weakens the muscles of the bladder & with time can lead to incontinence & poor urinary stream
2- Holding the urine does not tighten the vagina
However, there are certain exercises to achieve that, known as the Kegel exercises (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/kegel-exercises/WO00119)

Which reasons can be behind recurrent urinary tract infections ?
Is it a coincidence if they happen mostly during period ?
Which investigations should be done to understand why there are recurrent episodes ?

1- Many factors, check this thread: Tips For Women: UTI (http://www.englishsabla.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37413&highlight=UTI)
2- It can happen, however, the ladies whom are menopausal & have low Oestrogen levels are more prone to UTI
3- Get an Ultrasound done to see if any abnormality of the renal tract exists. A urine culture & sensivity to idenyify the pathogen
I think the 'old wives tale' of tightening the pelvic floor muscles by holding urine in is because almost the same 'exercise' movement is needed to force one's self to hold urine in.
Kegel exercises feel similar and should not be done while passing urine or while feeling the need to pass urine.

Done them all and is all ok
Is it possible that since with high prolactine am having a prolonged period [7-9 days rather than the usual 5 ] this helps to create a favourable environment for the growth of bacteria ?
Cause it happened 3 times in 4 months and always while menstruating
Get a mid stream urine culture done & let it be bacteriologically proven to be UTI
Chronic constipation may also lead to recurrent UTI

Ya, you made it sound like a riddle
Anyway, holding the urine is not advised, it can happen to anyone & once in while it should not be a big concern, but repeatedly it can damage your bladder
