10 to 20 years ago, people used to freak out when they know someonoe has cancer, and it would be a big deal! Nowadays, someone would mention cancer as a normal sickness!!! It's not a big deal anymore, although it may be lethal!

Now, in 2007, we hear about AIDS alot and people are starting to freak out!! Do you think, in the next 20 years, people will react towards people who have AIDS as how they do with cancer now?!

Is it something that goes around in circle?! Do you think after (or if) AIDS becomes a normal disease, another different diesease will come up?!

I don't think it will, AIDS is related with what you've done. Cancer, on the other hand, doesn't have anything to do what you've done in the past (drugs injections, sex relations, etc) in most of the cases.. Thats why AIDS is going to be a big deal until they find a cure for it.. Hopefully they will soon! I remember reading a thread here about an african president of something who got to a cure for HIV or something like that..

AIDS will never be a normal disease, but I'll rephrase that to: "Will HIV infection become a chronic disease"?

Then the answer is yes already, people infected with HIV can live a normal life like anyone else, not everyone infected requires treatment

Magic Johnson announced about his infection back in 1991 & he looks healthier than most of the healthy people around the globe

One thing people must know is that HIV infection is not a death sentence, not everyone infected will develop AIDS, certain medications that are suppose to "control" the virus do cause more harm than the virus itself & perhaps kills the infected person in a couple of years & without treatment he could have lived for 20 more years

The multi billion drugs industries are creating an unnecessary dogma & fear for the people for the sake of making money

Thinking about both, I get freaked out.

same thing goes for hepatitis B infection. which is transmitted in a similar way like the HIV. In addition, it is a dangerous infection as HIV....

As EW said, people freak out more when they talk about HIV than talking on hepatitis or cancer.... I believe Media played a major role in this.

like avian influenza...it existed long time ago...but more media emphasis now
