View Full Version : Afraid of Stress?

I realized something lately that's been going on for the past 3 years...
every time I've got a lot to do and I'm not prepared or time is running short on me... I keep myself busy with something else!!!

when I had exams 2 years ago, I spent the whole day before the exam drawing... and I drew a map that turned out great (most of my drawings turn out best before exams). later at night I just revised some pages and went to sleep.

This is not the first time such a thing occurs.
Is this a sign of giving up? Or am I afraid of being stressed out during the process and therefore occupy myself with something else?
Does this happen to any of you as well?
How do you deal with it?

i won't call it beeing afraid of stress.. it's more like you want to change your mind before exams or whatever ...
it's the same for me the day before exams i won't revise, i'll go out with my friends ^^ just to change our mind :)

heys nico. :D.... why would you want to change your mind? To reduce stress right?
The thing is... you're short of time... meaning there's a lot to revise and one night might not be enough...>> and I STILL occupy myself with something else.

Procrastination!
I always leave things to the last minute :shy:
A bad habit I am currently trying to replace with a more beneficial one :p
Although some perform great under pressure ^-^
I get good results too but I always know that I could have done even better if I had spent more time on whatever it was...
They say stress can cause procrastination.. finding a task overwhelming.. fear of failure.. caring to much about how you'll be evaluated.. lol many reasons..
and just as many solutions!
And well they depend on the causes I guess lol.
Perhaps you need motivation, in that case setting goals? talking to a friend who's doing the same thing and motivating eachother :p I dunno!
Just start early. I only find getting started hard.. but once I bring myself to begin working then I'm set ^-^
lol I just started a new semester today, hehe I'm determined to get high distinctions in all my units.
Gambatte ne! ganbarimasu :D

I'm a last minute person as well...
but did you ever actually stop doing anything about it even if it was the last minute and you weren't prepared?

it must be giving up :os

No I'd usually study till the very end
lol sometimes I'd be reading papers while I walk to the exam.

I don't know what it is!
Hehe tell us how you go with your next exam or assignment :D
Or better yet, inform us a couple of weeks before so we can bombard you with PMs and posts telling you to go study. muwahaha drive u crazy. Then you'll 'give up'! and go study :p

I kind of do the same thing, too. I tend to watch alot of movies and just waste my time around, keep myself busy with other things. Perhaps, you just don't want to deal with the stress and you just spend your time doing stuff you like and enjoy and perhaps, therefore your drawings turn out great. I guess, just try studying, even if it's like reading.. Myself, I've always been the type which studies the night before the exam and so.. I don't know what else to say.. Guess, just try and do the job that'll get you set for the exams and so.

the case with me is different, I do best when am under stress! whenever I am not stressed and do something, I do it in a bad way or have a mistake in it!

applies most on my studies!

When I'm stressed I go watch a movie or chill on the net till I forget why I'm stressed and then I do what I'm supposed to do. Movies especially really work well for me because they take me to another place away from my worries.

Twinkle is right, its called procrastination...

i recall when had to study for an exam, i would go to my room and close the door, my book is on the table everything is there... but then... something hits me... i need a snack... i need more light... its hot in the room... its too cold... i need music in the background... etc... sometimes i dont like my environment... i start tidying up my room... organizing papers... sometimes even rearranging the furniture in my room... all this coz i dont really want to study... during exam times for some reasons the programs on TV turn out to be very interesting... and i think to myself, i should be studying i could watch all this after my exams... but after exams there is nothing interesting to watch...

one way to overcome this is to study with a group... just make sure that you are all responsiable and not turn out into a gathering... make sure you enter the exams knowing how to answer all or most questions... dont worry about what your going to get, what your parents are going to say... what will you do with your future... do the exams with the best of your knowledge...

leaving things to the last min is a normal in student life...

twinkle and kamakazy.... I think you two hit the point...
This is what happens to me.

In a nutshell, you procrastinate when you put off things that you should be focusing on right now, usually in favor of doing something that is more enjoyable or that you’re more comfortable doing
Another common cause of procrastination is feeling overwhelmed by the task. You may not know where to begin. Or you may doubt that you have the skills or resources you think you need. So you seek comfort in doing tasks you know you're capable of completing. Unfortunately, the big task isn't going to go away - truly important tasks rarely dothanks for the link kama... that's exactly it.
