After reading a thread which was supporting an idiot show and one of the moderators deleting my post becouse it was a negative opinion,I thought to open one here which discuss how stupid are these shows.

The Star Academy concept belongs to the Spanish production company Gestmusic, a Spanish branch of Endemol. The first country to broadcast the format, however, was France on October 20th, 2001. Two days later, Operación Triunfo, as the show is called in Spanish speaking countries, went on the air in Spain.

Nowadays, Star Academy is the second most expanded reality show, just behind Big Brother, and has reached markets as different as India, Arab World and United States, becoming the first Spanish format ever acquired by these countries. This show is almost similar to the show "American Idol" but different.It is a sining show where the contestants get voted off by the people. It all ends up until the last person is left.


Star Academy Lebanon (also known as Star Academy LBC and Star Academy, Al Academia,) is a pan-Arab televised talent show, started in 2003 that features a group of 19 young male and female candidates from all over the Arab world. It is the Arabic adaptation of the French television show Star Academy produced by Netherlands company Endemol, based in the Spanish format called Operación Triunfo.

The show received intense criticism when it started off, which led some people to falsely believe that it would not succeed. Ok,Few days back I was changing channels and suddnly I saw some gay crying and I was like " why this channel not in the blocked list ! then I realised that this is the Star academy show.... I got disgusted from it and made sure that its blocked.... Now before I write my opinions about it, I would like to hear others idea about such shows and how they accept it.

I dont know which word you guys mean... if you ment the word "Gay" then here is how I defined it.

Gay = "Some thing odd or out of ordinary"

It's rubbish show and waste of time and money (for those who vote).

LBC is a Christian channel, and it's ok for them I guess for men and women to live togeather and do things which are against Islamic teachings and the world is watching.

it's funny to read all these negative comments, then realise that in reality, Start Academy has created somewhat of a crazed addiction for millions of people in the ME and North Africa.

I remember back when I went to Libya the first time, (which is a rather conservative muslim nation) and while any form of western music clips where quickly turned off, (because of the cothing I suppose), the single most popular topic of conversation was Star Academy. I'd never heard of it before, but in every house that we vistited, all the young women and men gathered round their TV set to see this Star Academy.

To me it looks silly, I don't like american idol, big brother, or any similar reality/talent show either. But then again, I don't need to see Star Academy to see girls in short skirts and hot guys getting giggy on the dance floor.

The popularity of Star Academy proves one thing. We're all made the same afterall.

I agree. I know this guy who sits and watches the primes the daily 9 pm updates and the reruns as well...can't get any sissier..

As for me, I watch the prime only on Fridays because I have nothing better to do :(

so BM when i say my opinion about something i dislike would that be a problem....i don't know why my post have been deleted in the other thread that Genius mentioned...i didn't say any bad words in it didn't hurt anyone just said my opinion about that.....dunno are we suppose to say nothing when we don't agree with the person or this fourm are for if i may say positive thoughts only....i didn't see that i've ruined any rule so that my post been deleted...

Your posts and others' will always be deleted if they are irrelevant to the topic at hand, like the case in this thread here, you were throwing remarks about this forum and not about the current topic. :)

the channel is not blocked ... they announced few days before blocking that u should re-install it and the gave the details ... but if u have arabsat or nilesat its working perfectly and its still broadcasting :)

I don't watch Star Academy, the only time I watched it when someone asked me if I know the omani guy there or not.
I think it's a waste of time to watch these shows, imvhp, no more, no less.

The problem is that whoever comes out of this show, he/she will still do these trashy videos & movies we watch everyday!

I don't hate this show. Actually it's actually fun to watch and it doesn't bother me at all..I dunno why ppl are bothered by it, you can simply watch any other show you do like :p

its not exactly COPIED its simply ADAPTED or DOMESTICALLY RELEASED
its not like they didnt take the copyrights from the original creator it even has the same name,same logo n same format overall

Why am against this show:

1-The show is a copy of a western show, and the events in it are against our culture and religious (speaking as a Muslim).

2-The competitors been judged in an un-fair way. if we got two members one from Egypt and one from Qatar, then the Egypt guy will win because there are more people in Egypt will vote than Qatar.

3-There are no real judges, the audience are the judge, and most of the audience are so ignorant when it comes to judge a talent.

4-They are abused emotionally, its nice to have some advertisement but if you get humiliated to get it, then I find it totally unworthy.

5-It has a very bad influence on our children, by watching such show… Some of our kids can easily learn bad things like accepting the idea of short clothes in public and kissing and all.

6-In our religion and culture a girl got some thing called “ 7ayaa2”, I don’t know what the exact translation for that word but its shyness. And in this show, I totally can’t find it.

7-Most of these people got not real talent, if you see the outcome of the first winner in the first show is crap.

Tell me fouad...What is there to respect about a bunch of idiots who know nothing about anything, with sucky voices and little talent coming up, staying in some house, kissing and hugging all day (Muslims and non-Muslims), the Muslim ones obviously forget about prayers and about Islam entirely and then getting one out of them to have a music record that will probably contain his 'modified' voice?

Actually I saw a few of them pray.. and come on some do have nice voices.. but ya I admitt the whole atmosphere is obviously against Islam.

1-I find this a serias case in our community and this kinda shows really effect on our choldren mentality, so I think that moving it to the "entertainment sabla" sabla is a mistake.

2-I dont find any problem in my words! "Gay" is not a bad word if you used it in a right context .. I already explained up there that I ment "Odd or out of ordinary" and many people use it .

- Since this is about a 'television' show then it belongs to movies and t.v sabla.

- gay = homosexual = the people on the show are gay (you mentioned something about him crying like a gay guy I believe), so perhaps u'd want to use it in a better way next time? or maybe just don't use it at all because as I said if you don't like something then there are better ways of expressing that dislike.

- The member of the previous support thread was dissapointed by the replies and what the members posted there is not what she asked for so as a mod I decided to clean up the thread and set it to the direction she was aiming for. I believe I did the right thing and if you really think about it u'll agree with me as well.

- If you want to pick on things that are against our culture and religion then you might want to start with more serious things than t.v shows, such as prostitution, alcohol and drugs which are all spread in the country and have a much worse effect on the youth in oman. :)

Genius, you say it has a bad influence on children, well such shows are everywhere now wether they were in english or arabic, it will have the same influence on children..
Besides, the girls who don't have hayaa2 don't have it in real life anyways so what's the difference if they're put in a show? Those people are not very religious in real life and in SA..

Its true, there are many shows which should be blocked from our children and this show is one of them,lets say that this is an example of the other show and you or any one can hightlight the other show or mention them in a more general thread.I totally agree on this.

Its true that the word " Gay " is commonly used for homosexuality but its not the only usage for it , it depends on the context..

*Gay as in Happy e.g We’ll have a gay ‘ol time
*Gay as in weak or crap e.g that game was a bit gay

and I said " This guy was crying like a gay " Which means that his action was "GAY" I didnt say that he is GAY..

Nabhan, please do search how many times the word GAY been used in English Sabla and then you will understand that you dont have to be insulting when you use GAY.

If you read my posts, you would figure that I defined the word " GAY " and I clread that I dont mean homosexual as you mentioned.Try to read my opinion in this thread and what I wrote about the reason why I posted this one.

Alright, I think this thread has drifted abit from the topic.. lol.. who am I kidding.. abit?? Is this about Star Academy, or is it English 101 and the use of words?

I suggest you continue on with the main reason why some like and some hate star academy, as long as you don't insult others. Members should always, in this case and other threads, choose their words wisely, the point is getting a message across in addition to sharing one's own opinion. How will you ever make a change if you don't convey your message in a proper manner?*

This is what I think of Star Academy,

At first, I thought.. Okay they all act up, they all know they're being filmed and aired 24/7..But then again, how long can one hold up the act? They live in that place for 3 or 4 whole months! I'm sure the "real them" eventually DOES show up. :)

I'm not sure how I feel about the show.. Although, I must admit, I hate the fact that all of them (Subhan Allah) and in all the seasons, end up falling for each other.. I don't know.. maybe thats normal, yeah they're in each others' faces every single day for 3 months.. Maybe its natural for a person to develop feelings..

As for it being against Islamic teachings and what not, since many of them are Muslims and from "hard core" muslim countries.. I don't know.. Well, surely Islam is against it.. But, if the boy/girl was brought up Islamically they wouldn't join this show in the first place. So whoever is complaining about not seeing them pray, means you watch the show? At all times? To check if they're praying or not? lol.. Maybe they don't pray at home to begin with! Not that it is any of my concern.

Again, I have no feelings whatsoever towards the show, the idea,I think it's abit creative but abused at the same time, and well, as much as alot of us hate admitting, some of these kids ARE talented. :)

I just say, such shows are distracting from what happens in the real world, thats all..

If it's not a discussion thread such as the one selma started to ONLY ask for support not your opinion on the show then yeah, otherwise if it's a discussion then I guess people have right to voice their opinion in a constructive manner of course.
