Thwart "sex maniacs" with chastity belts: Malaysian Muslim advisor (http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070216/od_afp/malaysiareligionsexislam_070216060230;_ylt=AvqVo4i 8eYU8S1srufvIA3cFO7gF)
A respected Malaysian Muslim religious advisor has suggested that women wear chastity belts to thwart "sex maniacs" who rape and commit incest, according to a report.
How many of you woman would agree?
And would this put muslim men at ease?
But wasn't wearing the hijab / niqab / burka supposed to be the magical solution to curbing unbridled sexual appetite ?

As long as I can have the key....
Does it come in different colors to match the external garment ?
What happens if the lock sticks ? WD40 ?
What happens if you loose the key ? Imagine going to a locksmith and having him cut it open !
Not to mention how much weight you'd be carrying around with you everywhere.
Haha.. it even has spikes for 'added protection'. LOL
What on earth does one do to go to the bathroom? :omg:
a "maniac" would still want to rape women even if they were wrapped like an onion (and smelled like an onion!) and the only solution for it would be the pic that fengy provided :XD:
chaste clothes do lower the sexual appetite, but this doesn't apply on maniacs and rapists because they're simply maniacs and rapists!

oh come on.. you're not saying that you agree with who ever this is saying women should wear chastity belts for protection?
lol for the sake of the thread, lets stay within the topic!

I'll let you google them though, cos if I put a picture, it will probably get removed. :D
Come to thing of it, if this funnel contraption could be permanently fixed, you could probably do away with the whole chastity belt !
Threadlike 17-02-07, 01:10 AM What the hell is wrong with the guy? On what basis of Qura'an and Sunna does he speak? I read the full article, there's absoloutely no mention of a verse of the Qura'an or a hadeeth of the Sunna...Did he suddenly invent that? It's so funny really...The picture provided is from a MUSEUM LOL
And perhaps it should have a lock and key! For the unmarried girls, the father should have the key, and for the married ones, it would be the husband. Woah, I feel so safe
It would also be available in grades, like number 1 would be controlled automatically by a wireless remote (which would be in the girl's guardian's hand with a network range of 3 km), it would also have an air conditioning system (for summer), and it would be more funky looking, with a leather interior, perhaps also with a sound system and a place to store your iPod. In addition, it would have a phone attached to it to enable your father/husband/brother to get in touch with you at any time! Why, not also add a tracking system :color:. Number 2 would have a material like coating and would lack the air conditioning/iPod feature. Number 3 would be metal all around - very plain and uncomfortble. It would basically lack all the features.
If anyone is interested, please contact me for further details, and I will try to get it for you for the best price possible!
I asked my dad to buy me the number 1 model for my birthday :hyper:
So I take it you are not in favour ?
:D

KUALA LUMPUR: A day after creating an uproar among women across the country, a well-respected Islamic religious figure said that his comments on chastity belts for women was just a joke.
http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/nst/Saturday/National/20070217094142/Article/local1_html
Nice joke.
But I think this idea can be very useful in the western culture where according to the statistcs that I think 1 woman get raped every minute or so in the US.
Key Facts
Every two and a half minutes, somewhere in America, someone is sexually assaulted.
One in six American women are victims of sexual assault, and one in 33 men.
In 2004-2005, there were an average annual 200,780 victims of rape, attempted rape or sexual assault.
About 44% of rape victims are under age 18, and 80% are under age 30.

Black Lolly 17-02-07, 05:47 PM LMAO.. :yell:
OMG, please don't tell me this is for real?!
Ghost477 17-02-07, 11:42 PM Honestly, this could be extremely useful in Canada and other western countries.
Did you know that 51% of all Canadian women have experienced at least one incident of sexual or physical violence. Close to 60% of these women have survived more than one incident of violence.
62% of the victims who reported being sexually assaulted in 1998 were under the age of 18.
In 2000, women made up the vast majority of victims of sexual assault (86%) and other types of sexual offences (78%).
80% of sexual assaults occur at home; 49% in broad daylight.
In cases reported to police, 80% of sexual assault survivors knew their abusers. About 10% were assaulted by a friend and 41% were assaulted by an acquaintance. 28% were assaulted by a family member, while the remaining 20% were assaulted by a stranger.
Victimization surveys show that less than 10% of women who are sexually assaulted report the assault to the police.
It is estimated that over 80% of women who are sexually assaulted do not report due to humiliation or fear of re-victimization in the legal process. For women of colour, that fear is worsened by the experience of racism.
Sexual assault is any unwanted sexual act done by one person to another, and statistics show that most abusers are men and most people who experience sexual assault are women. Sexual assault can be anything from unwanted touching of a sexual nature to rape.
Many types of sexual assault are addressed in Canadian criminal law. They deal with different kinds of abuse (e.g. using a weapon, causing bodily harm, and making threats) as well as different types of relationships where sexual contact can be a criminal offence (e.g. where one person is in a position of authority over the other or where there is a relationship of dependency by one person towards the other). Legal penalties for different types of sexual offences vary.

Frontline organizations confirmed that racist and sexist attitudes toward Aboriginal women continue to make them vulnerable to sexual assaults in Canadian cities.

Rigakos, eds., Unsettling Truths: Battered Women, Policy, Politics and Contemporary Research in Canada, p.65).
Women of Colour
Women of colour may be more vulnerable to sexual assault because of racist sexual stereotypes, and these stereotypes on the part of the police and the courts mean they may have less access to justice.
Sexual assault and abuse are rarely discussed in low-income Toronto communities where women of colour live, and most resources are concentrated on preventing young men from committing crimes.
Combined with stigmatization, stereotyping, state scrutiny, and inadequate social support, poverty and unemployment are significant predictors of being vulnerable to violence.
Women with low household incomes, low levels of education and/or who are unemployed are at higher risk of being sexually assaulted than women in general.
Women are sexually abused during times of war - they are raped, abducted, humiliated and made to undergo forced pregnancy, sexual abuse, and slavery.
Sexual violation of women can destroy a community in a way that few weapons can. The damage can be devastating because entire families will take on the violation and pain of sexual assault.
^^And I think you will be smart enough to realise that no chastity belt will decrease those statistics

Roflmao
Thats interesting.
Now what are the statistics regarding rape in moslem countries ?
No, no, no. This is probably all a misunderstanding based on a mistranslation.
In the original Malay, the respected gentleman surely said that women who are raped should be fasten a chastity belt on their attackers--and keep the key.

You know, you're absolutely right. Although male chastity belts (http://browndailysqueal.com/archives/chastity-belt.jpg)might look shocking to a few men, they would sure stop the maniacs from attacking women eh.. and just think of the added advantage at curbing masturbation too. Every mother should make sure their adolescent sons never take it off.:hyper:

Exactly where is the DEBATE here? Where is the Quran and where is the Hadith? I think if this guy and any of his likes comes out among MORE scholars, his opinions will probably fail.

The difference is clear as you can see. Not to mention that in a full Islamic state, a rapist is sentenced to death while in America they either get away with it or serve 56% of their sentence only.
Threadlike, I'm not talking about this person opinion but in general and applying Islamic sharia'a laws to solve the corruption in the western socities. That was my point.
All Off-topics have been and will be deleted, please stay within the topic, thank you :)
Nationmaster.com ?
Who are they ?
What is their background ?
Wudjab...Since you asked for it.
These are just examples of four Muslim countries and four European countries:
Saudi Arabia - 0.00329321 per 1,000 people
Turkey - 0.0180876 per 1,000 people
Yemen - 0.0038597 per 1,000 people
Indonesia - 0.00567003 per 1,000 people
Now four European countries:
America - 0.301318 per 1,000 people
Canada - 0.733089 per 1,000 people
Australia - 0.777999 per 1,000 people

oh come on threadlike, you're not THAT gullible and I'd be insulted if you thought I was. ;)
You know that most rape victims in muslim countries don't go to the authorities or even speak about their ordeal. I mean, this happens even in the west where society is very sympathetic to the rape victim.
Sometimes I think we forget that rape also means rape of young men by older intimidating men. What are the chances of a young man talking about his rape in your society? Surely, it must be THE most humiliating thing for him. Or maybe rape on young men doesn't happen in muslim countries.
My point here is, a rapist isn't defined by the culture he lives in. A rapist is defined by his own rapist psyche. He's not a man craving sex, as most think. He's a man who gets off by hurting women and FORCING his way with them, the same way a pedophile gets off by having sex with children. Not because he is surrounded by children and is deprived of sex. But because that is the psyche of a pedo. He LOOKS for kids, and a rapist LOOKS for women he can gain control over in a struggle.
This happens alot between married couples, but never gets reported. Because of this pre-conceived notion that a husband has a "right" to have sex with his wife, one way or another, because he is married to her.
Let's be realistic. No statistics of rape will ever show the REAL amount of rapes. And considering certain taboos that muslim countries have vs the west, this anomaly is greater in the gathering of such information.
Threadlike 19-02-07, 12:20 AM So we have absoloutely no grounds to discuss on...Let's take that for the sake of argument then, although I'm not convinced with your theory at an ounce...Statistics are statistics. If somebody is raped, it is normally assumed that they go and find the rapist. Full stop.
As you said Fengy, a rapist is a person who has a psychological disorder but a basic psychological fact is that some disorders are genetic and others are simply taken up from the society. As far as my knowledge goes, rape is of the latter. So, here's something interesting to discuss too: What MAKES a rapist? Is it more evident in Muslim countries or is it more evident in Western ones? Because if you want to end a problem, you need to end it from the core of it...I won't mention the precautions put by Sharia for the mental betterment, but anyhow...I'll sure love to see what you would have to say!
P.S: To wudjab:
"NationMaster features a large database of variables for comparing countries. A wide range of demographic indicators are covered including literacy rates, taxation levels, and murders per capita. These are also available in pie charts, scatterplots, and correlations graphs."
From Wikipedia :)
Always in muslim countries!? What is always in muslim countries?
You cannot discuss the number of rapes unless you have true statistics. And we both know that statistics for things such as rape, physical abuse and pedophilia will never be accurate simply because not all people come forward. Now, you have to ask yourself this. Is it more or less likely that this phenomena (of not going to the authorities) occurs more in muslim countries than the western countries? What does your common sense tell you?
Threadlike 19-02-07, 12:51 AM I don't see where you're heading...Because it happens in both.
'always' edited :)
Threadlike 19-02-07, 12:54 AM Just so that my previous post doesn't go sourceless:
One of the most startling aspects of sex crimes is how many go unreported. The most common reasons given by women for not reporting these crimes are the belief that it is a private or personal matter and the fear of reprisal from the assailant.
Approximately 28% of victims are raped by husbands or boyfriends, 35% by acquaintances, and 5% by other relatives. (Violence against Women, Bureau of Justice Statistics, U.S. Dept. of Justice, 1994)
The FBI estimates that only 37% of all rapes are reported to the police. U.S. Justice Department statistics are even lower, with only 26% of all rapes or attempted rapes being reported to law enforcement officials.

See, so I was right.
Many many rapes go unreported. Now, give us approximate statistics of the percentage of unreported rapes in muslim countries, please.
What a coincidence! I was looking at the same exact website.
Here are the 4 profiles of rapists and what women should do if they find themselves facing on of them.

The big thing is that as far as the west is concerned, crime statistics are officially published.
No such thing happens across most of the moslem world.
Which is why you like to imagine that rape is non existent in the moslem world.
Just go back to the topic being discussed.
Abu Hassan Din Al-Hafiz said cases of rape and incest were rampant and that chastity belts would help reduce sex-related crimes, the Star daily reported.
Of course this imam now says he was joking but you know it as well as me that he is lying thru his teeth just to save his skin since this has blown up in his face.
Now look up the meaning of RAMPANT.
Also look up and find the official government statistics for rape in Malaysia.
I wonder when an Imam will suggest this device instead. Just don't hold your breath. LOL
A medieval device built on hatred of men? Or a cheap, easy-to-use invention that could free millions of South African women from fear of rape, in a country with the world's worst sexual assault record?
Dubbed the "rape trap", trademarked "Rapex", the condom-like device bristling with internal hooks designed to snare rapists has re-ignited controversy over South Africa's alarming rape rate, even before plans for its production were announced in Western Cape this week.
Some say the inventor, Sonette Ehlers, a former medical technician, deserves a medal, others that she needs help.
The device, concealed inside a woman's body, hooks onto a rapist during penetration and must be surgically removed.
Ms Ehlers said the rape trap would be so painful for a rapist that it would disable him immediately, enabling his victim to escape; but would cause no long-term physical damage and could not injure the woman.
http://www.smh.com.au/news/world/controversy-in-south-africa-over-device-to-snare-rapists/2005/09/01/1125302683893.html
And it says there that South Africa has the largest per capita number of rapes.
