It would be nice for sabla members, who come from all kinds of places, to share a music vid or two from their own country of origin.

So first mention the country, and then a little about the artist, the song or the video.

So to start it off, I'm putting one of my favourite local artists. Ira Losco. Very talented young lady with a band. The last one is great to listen to in while driving, make you push that gas pedal a little more than usual. :hyper:

In Love Again - Ira Losco

and

Driving One of Your Cars - Ira

And this is Malta's angelic voice... we placed second in the Eurovision song contest with this entry with the lyrics and the music written by the same artist. I so love this song.

Chiara - Angel

Looking forward to your clips and comments. :D

Hakeem...Needs no introduction. Hakeem (for me) is just like Om Kalthoum and Abd al Wihab, he reminds me of my country SO GOOD! I feel like I'm ready to sell all that I own to get a flight ticket back home :D

His voice is of every Egyptian worker, craftsman, working man, normal man...He represents every class. He sang at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony this year along with Lionel Richie and other world-known artists.

I leave you with...
Aboosoh (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZqYftNgIFg)
Al Salam Alikom (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzFI6CP0Uis&mode=related&search=)
Efred (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eilq8_TDp4&mode=related&search=)

Those songs are my favs :D
Nice thread Fengy!

I am familiar with Al Salam Alikom ... heard it many times before on some tape my husband owns.

I love the way Egytians use the darbuka. The beat. It's very erm.. seductive.. (imagining a belly dancer dancing to it) ..

I don't know how to post the actual YouTube--it doesn't seem to work.

But the other day, Nella had a post on her blog about humming and it reminded me of the great Bobby McFerrin. Typically American: crazy, brilliant, original and you don't know quite what to make of it. Most people are amazed: First, at what he's doing and then, after they listen some more, at how it actually works out to be really MUSICAL, not just a fancy gag. It starts out seeming bizarrely impressive and then you see it's: Beautiful.

Here it is...I hope you'll enjoy!

And I wanna hear some Omani music, too!

Great idea, Fengy and what a cool response to Nabhan's plea!

lol..I am not familiar with any Omani artists sadly simply because I don't really listen to arabic music. Maybe another Omani member can enlighten us all on the famous omani singers.

Well.. none of my friends are listining to Omani singers.. except for Salim Al Araimi maybe.. the rest of the singers make very dull songs.. the proplem is that they didn't take advantage of our Omani cultural music which is full of great stuff.. sadly Emaraty singers stole some of Omani tunes and lyrics and used them in thier songs which are wide spread nowadays :lift: .
