Omanis Buy Expired Food to Feed Thier Kids

[Plain Truth]

I have been told that there are some Omani fathers who buy expired canned food to feed thier children because it is much cheaper. Can any one confirme please?

My dear although,omanies are poor ,but what you said is hard to believe,simply because there are many choices to choose if you are hungry .
Just go to any house they will give you what you need of food even if you come every day.

We are still is save place , you can say people buy the cheapest but not the expired.

i agree with hate. i think that there are a lot of people who are under the poverty line. i have in fact seen some myself. but i do greatly doubt the idea that a father would do such a thing. no matter how illiterate the parent may be, that would be a definite last resorty. i think you should try to dig more into the subject brother.

I also don't think that it is easy to find expired food on shop shelves. It's just not allowed. And there is definitely no special expired food supermarket in town!! Ha Ha
We do have health inspectors around you know

I don't think so , or may be you mean they buy expired caned food for their dogs and cats , because these days many omanies have dogs and cats in their houses like english people.
And omanies does not eat caned food brother we eat fish and rice , and there are no caned rice or 3awal.
Ah may be you mean qasho3 ,, but qasho3 does not has expiry date.( joking )

Thank you all for your responses. Yes Omanis do eat canned food. Just look near by your neighbourhood! All the shops are full of canned food. The can not just be for display. Can they???
Well, If you are an average Omani, I mean an Omani father, then your monthly income is on the average of (200 R.O.) that is if the average per capita income is ($6000). In addition, you might have have to feed an average of 6 hungry mouths and feed yourself, the average Omani family size. My question to you all, is 200 enough for all of your needs?
If you earn 200 hundreds then your expenditure might look like this:
Salary 200

Expenditure:
Car Fuel or Transport 50
Electricity 15
Water 10
Phone 10
House Rent or bank Loan 50
Clothing 20
Stationary for School 5
Food & Beverage 90
Total expenditure 250

You might be overspending by at least 20% of your income.
While I agree that your expenditure might look different from the above, I still think that it will be very difficult to meet basic needs.
Last, I have to admit one thing to you all. I have been told by someone who has no reason what so ever to tell other than the truth that he personally knows of a father who buys expired food, illegally of course, to feed his kids.

Brother Plain

One of my close friends get 180 omani rials and he has six members in his family ,, but he never complained about buying expired caned food.:)

The problem in oman only with the people who drink alcoholic ,, these types op people spent their money in such a things ,,, in this case may be they buy expired .:(

I lived with very poor people and they are my favourite friends but I never found them complaining or buying expired caned food.

This is just an openion and experience.;)

What kind of housing arrangment he has got? I mean, did he build his own house? How did he arrange that? Did he get the plot from the government?
what kind of transport he has got?

Ok I can tell u ( because I know all answers )

He is living in a house with his other brother ( they shared building this home ).

his brother has 8 members in his family.and get 200 omani rials.

He share the water and elecricity with his brother.

He is normal guy not mutawa3 , but he does not drink or smoke.:)

I like going to his house because they are simple and very happy ( may be because they don't care about money ).:)

he has no car but his brother have ( he come to the work by the taxi bus ).

I am sorry but I still think that you have not answered some of my questiones!
I really do not want go on about arguing wiht you about the mimimum wage requirements but I still think it is very difficult to make a living with 200, that is if you are already a father or if you want to have a family and establish some kind of indepedence.

alright, why don't u think about in this way, the two brothers who lives with each other, one gets R.O 180 and the other R.O 200 (a total of R.O 380). and since they live in the same house, they will share the water, electrical, phone, food etc bills. by paying 175 (as in the post by Plain Truth) that means that each brother pays about R.O 90 for the house. which leave him with R.O 210 for both brothers. which they can spend for their family and themselves. and in the same time one of the brothers has a bus, which (i'm estimating that this is the plain profit) makes an extra R.O 30 from it. which leaves them with a grand total of R.O 240.

after all this, i guess they can live without buying canned food, plz correct me if u think otherwise!

1st Smarty pants thanawiya is the equivalent to high school diploma ( which i can tell u don't even have one)
2nd Omani health inspecotrs are stupid because the ones who don't have any education go and ruin peoples businesses because they shut them down if they like the place or not and they dont judge the standard of safety and health by intenational regualtions and laws. SO they are stupid because they are not qualified to do their jobs. Just like half of the people working in the ministries and civil service and private sectors.
3rd Bringing children into the world and not being able to feed them is a sin and its disgusting and shouldn't be done. There are ways to stop having children if you can't afford them , goto any pharmacy and ask for my good friend Mr.DUREX, he will save you a lot of money and trouble.

I don't think that's true...Even very poor people in oman eat the best fresh food...
