The BG Energy Challenge is a physically and mentally challenging two day event which helps promote teamwork and networking across the industry.

The Oman event will take place from 21-23 March 2007 close to Muscat taking advantage of some of the fabulous dunes, mountains and wadis. Teams are challenged to raise funds through events they organise prior to the actual challenge event in March. The prime objective for each team is to raise the most money, the event itself is not the race, the winner is the team who pledges the most money. In order to participate each team of 4-6 people will be required to raise RO 2000 but remember the more you raise the better the chance you have of winning.

Raising funds for the National Association of Cancer Awareness is the event’s ultimate objective and with this in mind we look forward to your active participation in this inaugural event.

-------------------

How To Enter

Form a team from your colleagues, friends, and family members. Teams consist of 4-6 members, all male, all female, or mixed. Each team must pledge a minimum of RO 2000. A deposit of RO 250 must be paid before the registration deadline of 21 February 2007.

This event seems to be quite cool and for a great cause. I wonder how many teams will be joining and how much funds they will be able to raise.

- Are you willing to participate? If yes, will you tell your organization about this event and try to persuade them to join?

- What do you think of such an event?

we started at Sawadi Resort where couches took us, about 26 teams to the start off point at Mussana Dunes, which was going to be home for us for the next 3 days. of course the buses were not able to take us all the way so the first challenge was a 2km hike with our stuff (tent, sleeping bag, clothing, etc) to base camp which was situated just under a sand dune...

the place was already equipped and was well prepared prepared, with shower, bathrooms (not recommended), medical staff, food, etc...

on the first evening we broke an Omani record for the longest kabab skew (side by side) glad that i was part of an Omani record...

next morning at 6AM we were up and ready to start the first challenge, which was to trek 15km across Mussana dunes... the trek was ok, but the uphill really got us... we also collected litter on the way and did different tasks at the different check points on the way...

next day at 6AM we walked back the 2km hike, back on the buses which took us to our second challenge: Wadi Al-Abyadh... there we trekked the whole wadi which is about 12km... on our way we had to collect clues which would help us on the final challenge back at Sawadi Resort...

at Sawadi, we had to construct a raft using tubes, rope and a plank of wood... take it into the water then out again, dismantle it and use the tube to slide our way to the finish line...

after that awards were given out to the different teams followed by dinner and a beach bash...

all in all, it was great fun and it was for a good cause... i am defiantly in next year... inshallah... :)
