Scientists are looking at whether an appetite-suppressing chewing gum could be used to tackle obesity.

The Imperial College London team are developing a drug based on a natural gut hormone that mimics the body's "feeling full" response.

One in five adults are obese, but that could rise to one in three by 2010.

Those given the treatment felt less hungry and ate between 15% and 25% less - than those who received the placebo.

Hope over 'obesity-busting gum' (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/6262347.stm)

This hormone can be avialable in even injectable or in form of nasal spray

Will this chewing gum give yet another excuse of avoiding regular exercise & maintain a healthy lifestyle to all the obese people that are suffering from this condition just because of their sedentary lifestyles?

" a pancreatic polypeptide"... ?? what is this...

every year i attend international conferences on obesity... the recent developed anti endo-cannibinoid drug was shown to be effective in treating obesity.

I have met the professor who work in Imperial College London. His work is dedicated to Ghrelin Hormone (hormone from gut related to obesity)... I don't have an idea of what are they referring as "pancreatic polypeptide".

the new hormone "Obstatin" is formed from the cleavage of ghrelin hormone.. and it gets concentrated in the pancreatic island cells... Maybe they are referring to this hormone.. Then scientists from British Columbia must have a role in this.
