When was it opened and is the uni's Dean Omani? death rose 19-12-06, 06:54 PM me 2 donnu anything about it :p Charm 19-12-06, 07:00 PM So I'm not the only one then! :p IceTea 19-12-06, 07:07 PM You can check their site: http://www.unizwa.edu.om/e-index.php TripleTee 19-12-06, 07:11 PM it was opened three years ago... and yes... the president is Omani... and so is the vice president...dunno about the dean... Charm 20-12-06, 11:16 AM Thanks IT and 3T :) 5alfanooh 20-12-06, 02:50 PM but the campus is located on a school lol tho they are building a very massive campus .. some courses did not start.. so they are holding students n teaching them other stuff or foundation althu they dont really need it... hard to find good accommodation.. and the list is so long... Scarlet 20-12-06, 03:10 PM The Uni of Nizwa was established in 2004. The president and vice are both Omani. There are 4 colleges I think : Arts & Sciences, Engineering and Architecture, Pharmacy and Nursing, & College of Economics Management & Information Systems. Each college has its own indivisual dean. The problem students face is the accomidation. Another problem is the environment, espacially if your not used to living with people who are from the interior region!! I don't think anyone would want to study here..Unless your desperate to get a university degree!!!! IceTea 20-12-06, 04:09 PM I think there is a plan to build a new univ. And what is the problem with getting along with people from the interior region, just wondering?! TripleTee 20-12-06, 04:32 PM ^^I know it wouldn't be a problem for you... lol but I know exactly what scarlet's talking about... they just have a different mentality. about the new plan to build a new uni... yup, they're working on it. The plan's almost too good to be true... Scarlet 20-12-06, 04:34 PM I think there is a plan to build a new univ. And what is the problem with getting along with people from the interior region, just wondering?! They need financial help! So it'll take ageeessss before they build the actual univeristy. As for dealing with people from the interior region, their mentality man!! The way they think! i dont even know how to describe it! Off course I'm not generalizing, some girls are really sweet and friendly. But 85% of them are sooo weird!! IceTea 20-12-06, 04:51 PM Scarlet, In Sultan Qaboos last speech he said that he is going to give financial support to private universities. It's good to have people with different mentalities to discuss and share opinion, I'm sure the girls from that area say the same thing about muscat girls mentaility. :) Scarlet 20-12-06, 05:21 PM Scarlet, In Sultan Qaboos last speech he said that he is going to give financial support to private universities. It's good to have people with different mentalities to discuss and share opinion, I'm sure the girls from that area say the same thing about muscat girls mentaility. :) Well I hope and pray that happens ASAP!! The girls..Hmm, you can't share your opinions with them!! Everything you do or say or even think is considered taboo!! We cannot even communicate with these people! Oh well..!:bored: ToomuchaT 20-12-06, 06:50 PM .. bro IceTea.. it's the first time for me to know that we 'interior ppl' are alians ..lol. .. if the people from Oman says this .. i wonder what the ppl from UAE n Qatar who study at NU say abt us!! .. anyway.. lets talk abt the university.. it's really a good university *a promising one* .. different majors .. some new ones.. i believe it's a cheap one in fees n stuff like that. .. it might be difficult to sort out accommidation.. but when u find one it's much cheaper than muscat. .. if i wasnt goin for my PhD this comin year i would do at this uni some management course.. maybe later. Angel_Eyes 20-12-06, 07:10 PM University of Nizwa??? oh the poor people who go there!..i feel sorry for them! No cilvilization! haha Arabian Princess 20-12-06, 08:47 PM Scarlet, I think you should take this oppertunity to learn more about life .. meeting different people .. its not right to generalise about people's mentality .. there are good and bad people everywhere .. you just need to learn to live with them ... beleive me, living there by itself is great knowledge out of life!! Plus, I doubt they think differently if you really talked and exchanged ideas with them .. let them feel like you and you will soon realise how simmiler they are. Shinoda LP 20-12-06, 09:39 PM About the 'mentality' part of people from the 'interior', isn't eradicating such discriminating thoughts a part of college education? I mean, when I went to school I absolutely enjoyed meeting people from various parts of the world and from different age groups... its amazing to find what they bring to the table when you have an open mind to engage in discussions with them. That aside, I spent a considerable amount of time in the interior last time I visited Oman and was astonished at how much nicer some of these people were! I don't know if it was just an attitude towards an outsider, but everyone was friendly and some insisted on taking me around to sightsee and have lunch/dinner with them. Innocent people really... tiarathrones 20-12-06, 09:39 PM i loved nizwa. i went as a kid and bought a story book about a naughty boy called salim! i had fun and ate sheep with ten people from a big tray. i played stones and the memory of the beautiful ancient architecture still rest firmly in my head. i think ill pay the uni a visit next year as an exchange student....and then possibly create so much chaos... after which uni nizwa....will be hotter than Berkeley! Dam3eti 20-12-06, 10:58 PM About the students and people from the Interior, specifically people from outside Muscat, it is extremely difficult for people specially girls to deal with them. I experience this myself at Uni and no matter how hard you try there is something really wrong with the way they think about specific things. You cannot change the way they think no matter what you do or say..and when you do try they'll refer to you as "Bint Muscat" (a girl from muscat) even though i'm not originally from Mct, so why can't we discriminate against them when they do that all the time. I fully agree with Scarlet, its absolutly frustrating to just have to deal with them, I'm not talking about the guys here coz I don't deal with them and wouldn't dare, I dunno what will happen to the girls in class if I do that..they'll faint or something! Just thinking about them pisses me off! Plus most of them stink no offense to you Icy, bess seriously do these girls know what deodrant is?! Or is it "7arram" to use it?! Daamn I was suffocating during my exam yesterday! Dam3eti 20-12-06, 11:04 PM Scarlet, I think you should take this oppertunity to learn more about life .. meeting different people .. its not right to generalise about people's mentality .. there are good and bad people everywhere .. you just need to learn to live with them ... beleive me, living there by itself is great knowledge out of life!! Plus, I doubt they think differently if you really talked and exchanged ideas with them .. let them feel like you and you will soon realise how simmiler they are. okay, I'm not saying theyre not human, ofcourse they are and they can be really nice..But they can also be so rude specially when it comes to grades! I understand competitive but what those girls do is PURE 7asad (envy?). A bunch of them went to a teacher complaining about my grade because they thought it was unfair to them that I was getting A's and they weren't! I would NEVER do such a thing.. The best thing is to ignore them. I do that now, and it's working terrifically. Let them call me ba6rana (dunno whts the right translation for that, show off maybe) or whatever I don't give a damn! Shinoda LP 20-12-06, 11:45 PM How are they supposed to be 'cool' as you are, unless you give them a chance to interact with them? They'll always stay 'backward' unless you do so. Besides, it takes 2 hands to clap. Blaming the other party for all your misfortunes isn't really a mature thing to do. Lastly, don't take my post personally. Dam3eti 21-12-06, 12:01 AM ^ I didn't say I was COOL, but anyway I do give them the chance to interact, I gave them 3 years of my Uni life. Those girls don't wanna change, everything is a taboo to them as Scarlett mentioned in her post. Scarlet 21-12-06, 01:39 AM ^Those girls don't wanna change, everything is a taboo to them as Scarlett mentioned in her post. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I live and study in nizwa! I know what it's like over here. I'm not saying its a bad uni. Contrary to what most people think, the uni offers a very reputable degree. As for the people here, believe me I KNOW! Most of the people here are VERY narrow minded! And can be very envious, "jealous", Green-eyed Monsters!! Plus, I doubt they think differently if you really talked and exchanged ideas with them .. let them feel like you and you will soon realise how simmiler they are. I TRIED! Last summer I had to live in a villa with 21 girls! "Don't ask why??" I was watching Dr Phill with a couple of girls and the episode was about "Teen Pregnancies" and these girls were like: HOOWWW can she get pregnant! She's not even married to the guy!!  I was like :yell: !! I don't know if they were trying to be innocent! or was it just plain stupidity!!!!! .. bro IceTea.. it's the first time for me to know that we 'interior ppl' are alians ..lol. .. if the people from Oman says this .. i wonder what the ppl from UAE n Qatar who study at NU say abt us!! Dear dear Toomuchat, I am originally from the interior region, and no, I am NOT reffering to you and Mr IceTea as ALIENS! Plus, the university lacks in the diversity of students!! We're all 100% omani!! So don't worry, no one will think you're an alien or any of your interior buddies!:cute: okay, I'm not saying theyre not human, ofcourse they are and they can be really nice..But they can also be so rude specially when it comes to grades! I understand competitive but what those girls do is PURE 7asad (envy?). A bunch of them went to a teacher complaining about my grade because they thought it was unfair to them that I was getting A's and they weren't! I would NEVER do such a thing.. I know exactly what you mean!!! The best thing to do is to IGNORE them! Thats exactly what I do. I'm not saying they're bad people, but i just don't have the time and energy to waste on these people.. All in all, this thread is not about the "Mentality of Al Dakhliyah Region Aliens":hyper: Its about Nizwa University!! It is a very good university, the students have to learn how to be more open minded and to accept and respect other people's opinions. Thats all!! I COME IN PEACE PEOPLE!! STING 21-12-06, 01:43 AM Only more and more universities suc as this will help Omanis develop and build the Oman that the government has a vision for. However, I as a student, think a lot should be done to ensure that the graduates of these colleges and universitites are actually competent. Its not easy to pass and get the degree. STING 21-12-06, 01:44 AM BTW, on the homepage of University of Nizwa, it says "Make The Right Step". I think its their slogan. Now the question is, shouldn't it be something like "Take the Right Step"? :os Scarlet 21-12-06, 02:12 AM BTW, on the homepage of University of Nizwa, it says "Make The Right Step". I think its their slogan. Now the question is, shouldn't it be something like "Take the Right Step"? :os Uni of Nizwa needs :help: IceTea 21-12-06, 08:58 AM I see the whole issue as generalization and failure of open mentalities to communicate with close/backward mentalities. If few girls from muscat area think themselves they are more civilized then they should be able to deal with other people who have different mentalities and way of thinking. If you want others to understand you then you should go down to their level, show respect instead of criticising them for their 'bad smell' and all. And remember you are in their region so you are like a guest and you went their for education but there is no harm in educating others how to take care of themselves if you found something wrong. Isolating yourself from them will not going to help and is only cause hate feelings and will affact your learning performance also. I understand that univ student normally work in teams so how you are going to proceed with such attitude. I think this is only problem with girls I'm sure guys don't have such sensevities to deal with other people from other regions. Arabian Princess 21-12-06, 11:32 AM Scarlet, I totally understand your point and I know that some girls will look down at anything from Muscat .. and they all of them are spoilt ones .. but still, if we did not prove them wrong we would just be making them beleive what they have better .. I am against ignoring them and letting them be .. you are not doing yourself a favor .. you are actually stopping yourself from learning more.. Beleive me life would be filled with such incident .. where you are forced to interact with people so different from you .. and the wise solution is to interact and learn to live with those situation .. I know this thread is not about mentality .. but I think its drifiting to an interesting topic .. whats the harm in discussing it? ToomuchaT 21-12-06, 03:04 PM That aside, I spent a considerable amount of time in the interior last time I visited Oman and was astonished at how much nicer some of these people were! I don't know if it was just an attitude towards an outsider, but everyone was friendly and some insisted on taking me around to sightsee and have lunch/dinner with them. Innocent people really... .. i owe u a rep.. i couldnt now so please remind me of it all of my time when im able to.. thnx man. _____________________________________________ Sting.. u know what i agree abt not easy to get a degree and that's not just in Oman but the whole arab countries. ..have u ever heard of an MSc to be done in 4 bl00dy years.. that was in SQU!! ..i think we do need to change the *mentality* of the education n evaluation systems before we make more n more universities!! .. ppl go to university to gain knowledge.. here we go to university n we gain gray hair!! .. i believe Nizwa university will be a good one.. it's still a small baby but it's really in good ppl hands n i hope the make it a good adult. .. btw.. anyone wants accommidation let me know.. and no not that the reason im makin Nizwa university looks good n givin good n stuff. um albanin 21-12-06, 08:26 PM I just love this word? But not the way English sabla members view it. Its not negative at all. I think its just the opposite. I have a freind who is a graduate of Sultan school , do not wear hijaab & not from Interior at all , went to work at Nazwa (not Nizwa ,correct your pronounciation please) Hospital as an elective for few weeks. She told me that if there is any place I would love to live & work in , that is Nazwa. she just was so in love with the places, the people kindness & freindliness??? she never felt she was out of place, mind you she is not muhajjaba!!! what does that mean? Regarding the deodrant bit? hhhmm, well i studied in muscat all my undergraduate school & uni life, I lived in 3 western countries as a post-graduate , I still can smell bad smell of some my coleagues every where I go.not only people dont use deodrant , but many British for instance do not take a daily bath? Isn't Britain a civilized country ? why should they have people who stink..well dear ladies, as a physiciaon , I stand beside allot of people , every kind you know, & I work with senior doctors in the place I am in now, & beleive me they stink...so what does that mean?. Hasad in Oman is an inter-regional attitude , meaning , every body in all regions, including muscat (may be salalah is a bit immuned:D ) has this problem. Not just the interior. Muscat had plenty of different people (Omani) from different orrigins, Iran , Iraq ,Baluchi & thoes who came back from east Africa or even thoes who are omanies from Muscat itself...as me being in this catagory , spending most of my life in muscat , I ve seen all the hasad types you know..from just this group. didnt go to interior yet. So what does this mean.? If we make a survey & check the list of people who graduated from Thanawiya 3aamma (secoundry school) & check our grades , from the begining (since it started ), I assure you that the interior students & in particular Dakhiliya students will have the higher percentages, we just have to look at the first top 10. These people read & try so hard to get knowlage that can benefit them in their future. so what does this mean in case of knowlage mentality..?? Well everybody knows that women can make babies without husbands. Am sure the dakhiliya girls know that, but the question was, How could they accept such a thing to happend, & If their mentality is asking thoes question, then am happy to say , we still have good people in oman that still thinks that marrige is the only way to build a family..Dont you...that what it means to me at least. We were sent to collages by our parents to study , yes we will try to have good times by intermingling with others ,& that what happens but the main reason is to upgrade ourselves. we learn from the people we go to , whether we take their good things or we leave the bad attitudes.. thats life. who wants to stay in ghurba..but we want the experiance & the knowlage, we want to build our nation, a strong one, a pure one..at least as pure as possible. we shouldnt start from scratch when others already can help us mantaining the infra-structure. Enjoy your lives with good attitude with others. they will remember you for life. Dam3eti 21-12-06, 10:16 PM I wasn't refering to Nizwa ppl, I was refering to most people from the interior, I don't study in Nizwa Uni anyway. Plus University life here is not about team work Ice Tea, maybe it depends on the student's major, but I didn't have to work with anyone in a team. Again I am not saying they are all bad, and i'm not generalizing..but most of the girls I met in Uni look down on ppl from Muscat when they themselves are "guests" (the way u put it) here. Scarlet 08-05-07, 05:55 PM .. anyway.. lets talk abt the university.. it's really a good university *a promising one* .. different majors .. some new ones.. i believe it's a cheap one in fees n stuff like that. .. it might be difficult to sort out accommidation.. but when u find one it's much cheaper than muscat. First of all, the fees are not cheaper. On the contrary, the fees are even more expensive than the other colleges in Muscat. It costs approximately 3500 rials per year. Those are the tuition fees alone, without the other expenses like accommidation and allowences..etc. Other colleges cost way less and as we all know, there no fees to pay if you're studying in SQU. Difficult to sort out accommidation? Its almost impossible to find a proper place to live in! And once u find a place, its more expensive that Muscat. I just wanted to clear that out. IceTea 08-05-07, 07:17 PM Everything worth it for a good education :). Scarlet, who knows maybe you will get married in Nizwa. |
