I didn't know it was this bad!!! Thank God I wasn't in Qurm! Dr Diablo 18-12-06, 11:53 PM Whoa, now thats just too much.. They should do something about that area's ground leveling.. :os Hawk 19-12-06, 12:06 AM Oh, when I first read the title I thought it was "BHS Mother****er" Lol! Marvel 19-12-06, 02:03 PM tell me about it , i've been there when it all started and i've seen that the water is leveling up so i just get my self outta there....here some pic befor it got worse i took it by my self IceTea 19-12-06, 02:39 PM That shows the good design of the city and safety system. dangooo 19-12-06, 02:45 PM OMG!!!!!!! :os STING 19-12-06, 02:47 PM This is what happens when you build the shopping area in a wadi! IceTea 19-12-06, 02:49 PM Exactly, and it's not the first time it happened, but what has been done about it so far? I guess nothing! Charm 19-12-06, 02:55 PM My god!!!! Looks very bad to me!!! Solafa 19-12-06, 03:04 PM Sallam, Its really bad to see such state in that area and i wonder about all these business located out there and how much lose they are going through. Ice Tea: sometimes you can't blame the designers of the road for such disasters. I don't know how does the Highway Department works around in Oman, but what i know in here in UK we try our best to take in account the worst case scenario when we are designing any Highway even if it was a small Cul-De-Sac = its a small road with a turning point in housing estate. Sometimes even if we think we have given the best ever design that is near to perfection, we will always end up with a small weak area that will ruin every thing. Ground condition plays a big rule in highway design along side with the levels of that ground and the possibilities of making it raised to allow water flow and not allow the water to create any ponding on the road for the safety reasons. As far as i know about the Qurum area in that location in exact that it used to be a big valley/ Wadi and used to collect a big amount of water that was useful to many people in the past. The ground condition on that location is very dry and the deserty-mounty sand does not allow any water to be absorbed through to allow penetration. Therefore water tends to flow over the surface and only get collected within that area because there aren’t many exits for water to disappear to. So, water level rises and cause flooding. In such cases Omani Government or the Local Services/ Municipal should have provided Flooding Measures/ Remedial and Flooding warnings around and people should have taken these warning seriously and try to avoid cruising around. Though out of my own experience not every measure can help to stop any flooding but they can control the amount of the running water on road surfaces. NiGhTFaCe 19-12-06, 03:12 PM Maybe this is a chance to get their stuff under affordable prices! :p Fdaitny 19-12-06, 03:15 PM Oh my God. That's why they shouldn't have built those things and houses there! That's the number one place that is most likely to flood..and well, it did flood.. :mmhmm: PiXiE 19-12-06, 03:23 PM Perhaps, Oman lacks the Architectural Intelligence? Streets and routes are only planned for that current time, not for future plans. Anyhow, it happened once in a long while. :p Solafa 19-12-06, 03:33 PM Perhaps, Oman lacks the Architectural Intelligence? Streets and routes are only planned for that current time, not for future plans. Anyhow, it happened once in a long while. :p Sallam, I believe that every Highway Department should the calculations of possible water catchments that can cause floods that will occur within minimum of 30 years upto 150 years. These numbers are not the number of the actual years but the amount of water that could be collected within these periods of time and the possibility of the amount of water that gets drained through the drainage network [gullies and manholes]. So, if the Engineers in Oman who are designing such road are not taking these measures in account when they design, then i shall say no wonder that Muscat ends up with such a big level of water rise and flooded areas. Nella 19-12-06, 10:54 PM yeah..i'm with STING! i mean..it's a wadi after all  Thanx Scar for sharing Soulless 19-12-06, 11:27 PM :) Am Really Happy about the safety system in our country another 2 more days of non stop rains and muscat will be under the sea :) |
