The task manager does not show when I press ALT+CTRL+DELETE.

What shows up then? If it doesn't automatically open up, another window should pop up with "shut down", "task manager" and blah blah options.

Start -> Run -> Type "taskmgr.exe" and it should open up.

Nothing shows up.

I tried to do it as you suggested, a pop-up with "Another program is using this file" comes up.

i m facing the same problem with task manager in my laptop.
it says "Administrator given you privilages" or something like that, while i am the administrator and plus i am getting a pop up always on my task bar saying computer has spywares in it.
and when i turn on the laptop, i belive its that pop saying about spyware trying to get online and my internet connection dial up screen pops up like so many times

Atleast you get something, I get nothing. Nothing happens, just as if I did not even click ALT+CTRL+DELETE.

It's your windows settings.

Go to: Start > Settings > Control Panel > User Accounts.

Click on > change the way users log on and off

Is the welcome screen ticked ? If yes then if you want the ctrl+alt+delete to work you need to switch to the classic windows log in method. You can do that by removing the tick from the welcome screen.

And in this case u will have to log in with your user account and password if you sent any if not then it should be empty.

If this is not your case, let us know.

Yes, it will remove it. So any user will have to enter their user/pass to access.
