A friend of mine who's a doctor told me that STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) are becoming common in Oman with time.

Now the bacterial type of those disases are not as dangerous as the viral (caused by viruses) types.

Almost all viral STDs can't be cured. They stay with the person for lifetime. Dieases like HIV, Hapititis (A, B), Herpes,

These can cause serious damages to your, your partner and your future babies health.

The danger about some types of STDs is the easiness of being transmitted. Hepatitis can be transmitted by only KISSING. So it's not anymore wearing a protection! Hepatitis B can cause liver cancer.

At the same time, I see dating is very common, if not all dating involve sexual contact, they would involve kissing. That's a very potential risk which you need to be very aware of. Hepatitis is common, so be aware guys and girls!

A disease like Herpes can be transmitted through skin contact, so any skin contact could be very dangerous.

So becareful bros and siss.

Surely doctors around can correct me, and provide more information.

One form of hepatitis can be transmitted, through sweat. So, forexample, you are as school, and the person who sat before you has it and his sweat is on that chair. Touching that chair with your hands could be enough to get it.

Now this is a rare example, but there isn;t even a need to actually touch that person. Touching something they touched before you, like a door handle, can be enough.

If you follow a few basic rules, you will be much much safer.

Carry wet wipes with you everywhere.
Wash your hands as frequently as possible - with soap.
Do not touch railings that many people use, like in school, or out in public. Do not touch bus stop signs and other things that many people have touched before you.

Don't share shoes with friends. Don't share jewellery. Don't share hairbrushes and combs.

Always wash wipe your hands after touching toilet door handles. You don;t know if the person before you bothered to wash their hands.

Always refuse a glass, plate or cutlery that hasn't been washed properly when you are out eating.

Wear a condom (http://growabrain.typepad.com/growabrain/images/condom_head.jpg)on your head too, just incase. You should be fine!:hyper:

You concern is appreciated. However, alot of correction ought to be done

A friend of mine who's a doctor told me that STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) are becoming common in Oman with time.

That is true & not only in Oman

Almost all viral STDs can't be cured. They stay with the person for lifetime. Dieases like HIV, Hapititis (A, B), Herpes

True to only a certain extent, HIV can't be cured whether by human's immune system or by medications & there is no vaccine & no vaccine in the coming years either.

Hepatitis A is very common where there is poor hygiene & it is transmitted through contaminated food & water, it is a self limited acute viral infection that the body gets rid off & only 1 in 1000 will die of it. There is a vaccine available & those who recover from it will be immune in the future

Herpes though it stays latent in the body of those infected, it can be very well controlled

Hepatitis B vaccination is given to all newborns in Oman & more than 90% of those vaccinated develop immunity to it, in case of adults whom get exposed to the virus: more than 90% will clear the virus & get cured & an unfortunate 10% will remain chronically infected, from those 10% the majority will overcome the replicative phase & will remain healthy carriers only with a normal life, minority will have active disease & can get liver related complications. Newborns whom are born to Hepatitis B positive mothers are given Immunoglobins at birth & are given the full series of vaccination thus there is nothing much to worry about

The danger about some types of STDs is the easiness of being transmitted. Hepatitis can be transmitted by only KISSING

Nor Hepatitis B/C nor HIV are transmitted through kissing or casual contacts

Herpes can be transmitted through kissing

It's something I learnt in school. I'm a hairstylist and (my memory fails me) one type of hepatitis was named that is transmitted from person to person through sweat, which is why we were always told to sterilise ustensils after each client, never use tha same towel twice and to pay extra attention to overall salon hygiene of chairs, toilets, door handles etc...

edit: ran a quick google search... it's hepatitis B.

"Transmission of Hepatitis B
Hepatitis B is transmitted through contaminated blood, sweat, tears, saliva, semen, saliva, vaginal secretions, menstrual blood and breast milk. "

Those are standard precautions that must be taken by anyone running a saloon or similar occupations, no one wants to risk

There have been no reported cases of Hepatitis B being transmitted through saliva or sweat

Quoting: "Urine, faeces, saliva, sputum, tears, sweat and vomit do not pose a risk of HIV, Hepatitis B or C unless they are contaminated with blood"
