View Full Version : "Pulsing" Eyelid

I don't know what is the right word for that, but the upper lid of one of my eye -and for several days- "pulses".
By that I mean that it somehow starts shaking for several seconds and stops.

This happens to me like once in a year or once in 2 years and does not last for more than one day.

But this time, it's almost a week, and it pulses several times a day. :help:

What is the medical name of this condition?
What are the causes and remedies?

Thank you.

I think it may be stress or something.
Because there was a time that it didn't stop pulsating for a whole week and I was really stressed.

But lets wait for the doctors answer.

eyelid twitching medically is called: Blepharospasm

there is an old grandmam myth about this. they say if your right eye is twitching then something good is going to happen. if the elft eye is twitching then bad things gonna happen..

Causes
fatigue, stress, and caffeine.
More severe contractions, where the eyelid completely closes, are possible. These can be caused by irritation of the surface of the eye (cornea) or the membranes lining the eyelids (conjunctiva).

Treatment:
Get more sleep.
Drink less caffeine.
if sever: eye drops.

i thought it was what fahad said and now it has been confirmed! i cant help but semi-believe that superstitious thing about how left means bad and right means good.. anyways, i love the feeling of it when it twitches (dont ask why :think:)..

Some one told me to get rid from bad luck i have to touch my feet and take microscopic dust and touch my eyelid. :)

I don’t believe it but practice it unconsciously!
~~~
Thanks DOC, I know the reason from my local doctor but you know, superstition is always follow us like our shadow ....
Thanks Doc Fahad. :cute:
I searched and found this:
In Chinese (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culture_of_China) folk culture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folk_culture), it is commonly believed blepharospasm foreshadows something significantly bad. A saying is that a twitch on the left eye means you will lose money, while those on the right eye meaning some life-threatening disasters are at hand.
Which tell us that this is all mumbo jumbo. :cool:
it doesnt happen to my eyelids much , but whenever it does, i take a thread piece, wet it and keep it on my eyelid and the twitchin eventually finishes.
