View Full Version : Q to the sabla doctors
Ms^Know^It^All 21-11-06, 01:45 PM Not sure where exactly this thread wld be best placed...
So Mod feel free to move it..
Simple Q, where wld the doctors n the sabla recommend a medical senior house officer to work in... eg MOH, SQUH, Armed forces, Deewan, ROP?
Say the person graduated from a UK medical school and has completed the internship and one yr SHO position n Uk.
Where they pay more I guess.

Tnx 4 the response Ice tea and rossonero..
Unless u r a consultant, private hospitals are not a good place to work in.. I worked in a private hospital in Ireland and I wldnt recommend anyone to work in one unless they were well experienced..
And as far as I know, omanis who work in UAE in a junior level well get paid less than an emarati. so really ur better off stayin in Ireland or Uk where everybody gets paid the same.

Tnx 4 the response but its not jst the money that I'd like to compare..
Postgrad opportunities, exams, experience, working hrs, physician : patient ratio, specialities and friendly environment are all things that Id like to look at.
Since MoH has the largest bulk of patients thus it's a great working experience for any Dr
SQUH has good teaching & it's much superior to any MoH institute in that matter (not in all the fields though), for example Khoula Hosp is the best place for anyone interested in Orthopaedics or Trauma
So eventually, as a medical officer (GP), MoH is a good option if you are not concerned about the pay, but the consultant in MoH has a higher salary compared to a consultant in SQUH
For your information, SQUH hardly accepts Omani medical officers, only few students every year from the batch
Best of luck

Tnx Hitman... Yeah Im aware of the situation in SQUH.. bas i'd still like to consider it as an option..
MOH sounds like a reasonable option but 4 some reason everybody Iv met who work with MOH r trying to leave it.
Thanks for the help though.

They take the first 3 in the batch and then interview them I guess
but 4 some reason everybody Iv met who work with MOH r trying to leave it.
Can be due to the work load accompanied by the lower wage compared to other Govt health hospitals
But you will rarely find a consultant or senior registrar quitting MoH

That is probably true about their reasons 4 leaving.....
And so far The only ones who have recommended MOH apart from yourself r consultants.
SQUH is better as Hitman said.
it is a teaching hospital. One of the advantages here is the facility of reserch which is almost lacking in other hospital. add to that the availability os certain advanced diagnostic tool.
salary is better..LoL
You can apply for SHO position. But you may not considered for a scholarship program. Omani TOP graduates get this position and later sent abroad for further specialization.
