Hepatomegaly is the condition of having an enlarged liver. It is a nonspecific medical sign having many causes, which can broadly be broken down into infection, direct toxicity, hepatic tumours, or metabolic disorder. Often, hepatomegaly will present as an abdominal mass. Depending on the cause, it may sometimes present along with jaundice.
[edit] Diagnosis
After a thorough medical history and physical examination, blood tests should be drawn. An important series of blood tests are the liver function tests, which give a good impression of the patient's broad metabolic picture.
An ultrasound of the liver can reliably detect a dilated biliary duct system, which helps distinguish parenchymal liver disease from extrahepatic bile duct obstruction. Ultrasound can also detect the characteristic texture of a cirrhotic liver, and can guide fine needle aspiration of cysts, abscesses and tumours.
Computed tomography (CT) can help obtain more accurate anatomical information, and is unaffected by the obesity or the presence of bowel gases.

We shall discuss further after you answer the following questions:
1- Age/gender of the patient?
2- Is the patient overweight?
3- Does he/she consume alcohol?

1- 24/Male
2- i think little bit overweight > 167 cm 83 kg
3- None alcoholic
Fatty liver are either classified as a an alcoholic (common) or non-alcoholic.
severe obesity is a common cause of non-alcoholic fatty liver.
genetic disorder can lead to the same problem but they are rare.
liver function test is normal because the problem might be small.
My question:
-How did you know it is a fatty liver with mild hepatomegaly. Any investigation was carried out?.
was it a radiological finding like CT, or a liver biopsy (sample taken from liver).
- any history of viral hepatitis.

- by the ultrasound scan but no sample taken from liver
- not sure if there is viral hepatits , but i dont think so.
the ultrasound may not be true, it is not a gold standard test for fatty liver... with a normal liver function test, and no other history of any problem.
the hepatomegaly was tested physically, i mean the doctor touched your abdomen and felt the liver or just a finding from the ultrasound.
the finding might showed a small deposite of fat in the liver which is a normal individual variation. Usually found in male more than female (before the menopause age). Due to Hormonal differences, the male tend to store more fat around internal organs (Visceral fat) compared to female. This contribute to aple shape obesity in male

That gives us a BMI of almost 30 which is obviously overweight but maybe the individual is an athlete & has muscular mass thus the BMI itself isn't enough to establish obesity
Get the lipids checked & if it shows high total cholesterol with high LDL/TG's then initially lifestyle change & diet along with exercise should be considered for 3 months then repeat the test
Since the patient does not drink alcohol, obesisty might be the probable cause of the fatty liver, but as FaHaD metnioned, viral hepatitis should be excluded as well
Get the fasting blood sugar checked too
Best of luck

the doctor said its little enlarged liver from the ultrasound scan and they asked for liver function test and it was normal.
there is an abdomnal discomfort it comes and goes sometimes.
is there any treatment for this?
try to consult another doctor probably not a private clinic (some look for money).
hepatomegally is called hepatomegally when felt by fingers under the ribs. Little enlargement found in ultrasound is not confirmatory.
