When I pray I noticed that my knees click (produce a tick tock sound).
Many girls in the college have the same problem too, you can hear their knees click in the praying room. :os

What is the reason behind that?
Is it good to excercise (ride a bicyle for instance)?
Will excercising consume the knee, ot will it stimulate it to produce more of the jelly-like material between the bone (not sure what it's called :cute:)

Since I was a teenager, when standing up, I alway lean on one leg and let the other somehow loose.
I have been trying to stop this for years, but I tend to do it in-voluntarily.

What do I do so?
Does it signify anthing?
Now, my left hip also produces a sound.
PS: I have flat foot.

Most of my questions these days are about bones. :hmm: I can still remember how heavy the school bag was. And we had to suffer for 12 years with it. I guess, this is showing its symptoms now. The other option is that's I'm getting old too soon. :yell:

The vast majority of the clicks that people hear or feel are benign & not associated with any pathological conditions of the knees. Unless the clicks are accompanied by other symptoms such as pain, swelling & limitation in the movement of the knee joint, they are nothing to worry about at all.

But if they are associated with the above mentioned, then medical opinion should be taken (osteo-arthritis , injury to the knees, damage to the knees' ligaments...etc)

Exercising won't effect your knee unless you are suffering from a knee condition, with those clicks the sporting activities are not discouraged

I would suggest you get an opinion of an orthopaedician regarding your flat feet, you need further assessment

If if you already have been assessed, what were you advised?

This is a normal click sound in the knee joint. it is the same sound produced when you crack your fingers. It is not necessary associated with an underlying problem or a joint disease.

I remember posting a long thread about it . unfortunately it has been removed in the back-up files.

X-rays and other imaging techniques has shown the presence of gaseous bubbles withing the synovial fluid ( the fluid present inside a joint).

The synovial fluid ( fluid in joints) contain dissolved gas in a solution. Thus when you move your joint (as in praying) , the pressure within increases and causes the gas to be separated from the fluid forming a small bubble which produces the popping sound.

researches has been done to study the nature of this gases and their sources.. one studies has shown the presence of Nitric Oxide (NO) in synovial fluid. Some of you heard about this normal body gas and its effect on heart blood vessel's muscle.

HaroundDb, they are not the same gases as stomach, intestine.

don't worry it is just small quantitiy of gas.. the guy who discovered this small quantity of gas (Nitric oxide) won a Nobel prize years ago.
