It's kind of common ( if not general ) practice that the patient go to several doctors, hospitals, ect … for consultation before deciding take treatment or operation !

This is mainly here in the GCC that I noticed this ! and it's more if the doctor is a local !!!

Is it that they don't trust the first doctor they visit ? or they don't trust the local doctors ??

Is it lake of experience of those doctors ? ( which isn't true in most )

What do you think the solution to this problem ?

every1 learns from scratch....
believe it or not, even foreign Dr.'s were begginers once upona time....
These younge local Dr.'s r new... no1 would b expert between day n night...
if u notice that those foreign Dr.'s have experince for more than 10-15-20 years...
so u cant compare both...

And, dont 4get that even Dr.'s r himan beings, they do mistake just as loweras, engineers, teachers, pilots...etc

N not all local Dr.'s r the same.....

N whatever happens,.... after all is written by God.

Mistakes in medicine can be classified into different categories & some of them can't be pardoned, thus it is always wise for a Dr to discuss with his/her senior for a 2nd opinion & that is why you see a medical officer discussing with his registrar & the registrar informing the consultant about the management plan

Going to different Dr's on many occasions is not due to lack of trust but just for a 2nd, 3rd or 4th opinion which is the right of the patient

I can't say why you don't trust a aprticular Dr because I haven't been to one from ages

What are your reasons & bad experiences?

So it is a problem of trusting your Dr. ??? cause if it's not then why would you need a 2nd, 3rd, 4th ...ect ... ??

Personally I dont go to 2nd or 3rd Drs unless the issue is serious and I have a feeling my dr is doing nothing .. otherwise, I would feel so confused on which dr is telling me what really to do!!

This is another problem .... when Drs give you different opinions and you got confused which to follow ... and even with serious issues you end up with more than one opinion !!!

Not always to do with trust, sometimes the cost is also involved

And if the condition was diagnosed to be serious & success of the plan was not very optimistic then the patient goes to another for a 2nd opinion hoping to get a more optimistic response

Thing is that here private sector dominates over public so when they suggest a solution you have to be careful to check if they want to squeeze money from you
I remember last year a fibroadenoma came out in my mammogram but is years it's there and inshallah it dsnt grow bigger, it can stay there
The gynecologist said i had to go for surgery :omg:
Is not good to make money on people sufference

Getting several opinions is not a matter of not trusting a doctor. Doctors are humans in the end of the day and they too can make mistakes. No matter how good your physician is doctors always recomend that you get several opinions before going through with a serious operation. Why should you take the risk of getting a wrong diagnosis? This is your body, you need to make sure that they are doing the right thing to it.
If it's something like getting a Cold and flu tab then obviously you don't need to get several ipinions.. but if its serious.. ask more than one doctor. (I dont think it will hurt their feelings :) )

The policy is: Between a Doctor and a patient, there has to be some trust.
