View Full Version : What is the top most download speed you ever touched?
Haroundb 25-09-06, 12:13 PM Just curious to know, what is the top most download speed you have ever achieved (in reality), and what connection you were using?

What do u mean Haroundb??
i think the speed depends on the size of what im downloading!
if it was small, once i click OK, it done! if it large, it takes time!
maybe if u answered the Questoin it will help :cute:
SQU intranet (downloading stuff from SQU's website to the computers in SQU) I did it today and it downloaded 20 Mbz in like 5 seconds, so it should be about 4Mbps, or could be more

Transfer Rate measured in KB/Sec MB/Sec according to the speed of your internet connection. It is the speed which you can download a file from the internet, the one you see in the download dialog box:

Hope this answered what you were asking about :)
NiGhTFaCe 26-09-06, 12:22 AM At home using ADSL I was close to 50 Kb/sec. At work using leased line I reached up to 100 Kb/sec.

That is really very fast (Masha2allah)....what is the connection you are using man?:mmhmm:

For me at my work ADSL gets me up to 160 kb/sec. Does this have something to do with the distance between your work and omantel nearest distribution point? I think ADSL is really faster than DSL, as that what I know, so could be you are having at home DSL not ADSL, because what I know also is that ADSL is restricted just for companies and really far more expensive than DSL!?
This needs more clarification I think, because the difference is big between what you get and what I get if we asume that we are using the same type of connection in the ADSL/DSL case.

Haroundb, you got it wrong. Its not our topic. But, just to make it for you, check this,

NicoBambi 26-09-06, 12:43 AM reach 250~260 Kb/sec =)
before i was in a 56k conection lol i love my ADSL
NiGhTFaCe 26-09-06, 12:48 AM NicoBambi, thats mean your ISP provides you a connection of 2 MB or something like that.
NicoBambi 26-09-06, 12:50 AM lol you're perfectly correct ;)
Rossonero 26-09-06, 02:02 AM Mine here is 10Megabites per second but its automatically reduced to 128kbps..download is 52kbps, in oman 46

10 MB?! Are you a part of a network?!
Rossonero 26-09-06, 02:26 AM Yes,
check:

NiGhTFaCe 26-09-06, 02:35 AM So as I assumed, the 10 MB is the speed of the link connecting your computer to the local network, its not the speed of your internet connection.

Yes, I think so, that is what the man in Omantel told me one day when I went to there asking bout the DSL service...
Froggsie 04-10-06, 11:54 AM i was working at IBM for a while, they're hooked into the backbone of the network...a 1gb connection, but lots of people use it - having said that i was downloading things at 30/40mb per secound. it was great!!
Listen2theOcean 04-10-06, 02:26 PM transfer rate is 35 at work, but that I am using dial up at hom, it is just very low i guess, about to finsh up with DSL shifting.
Metal_Maniac 04-10-06, 04:05 PM I get about 120kbps (ADSL) from some sites and sometimes as low as 14kbps with other sites. I guess it also has to do with the site that's hosting the file, they'd probably want to restrict the bandwidth to ensure that everyone gets a consistent speed.
having said that i was downloading things at 30/40mb per secound. it was great!!
That's just amazing. I'm not sure if we'll ever have that kind of speed in Oman :(
Froggsie 05-10-06, 09:03 PM it is amazing, you will get it eventually. do want to point out that only got that in an office of a buisiness that turns over quite a few million a year. so they can afford it. lol :).
In Australia at home .. It used to reach 300 KB per second ..
Two days ago I went to Omantel .. told them to increase the internet ..
yesterday the transfer rate was 70 KB per sec .. Today it's 270 KB per sec! ;)
It's still good in Oman!
The Punisher 20-10-08, 04:49 PM 600 kbs in college.
squinty 20-10-08, 07:43 PM I reached 20 MB per second in University campus once. :)
Now it is always 2 MB or something close to it.
The lowest is 100 - 200 KB per second
1.5 MB/s (not Mb/s). In Oman. In my father's office.
netlover 21-10-08, 06:33 AM Around 650 KB per second (bit-torrent).
Lightning2 21-10-08, 10:39 AM at home....around 72kb/s.......up to almost 120kb/s
at work hmmmmmm.......i guess around 300kb/s
At home it had reached 300kb/sec and I was :o :hyper:
MorphaKnight 20-12-08, 07:44 PM was at my aunt's house in canada.. was downloading 175 MB show and the top speed it reached was.. get this.. 750 kb/s it finished it in like less than 10 minutes or so :hyper: i was using a wireless connection and i didn't get to ask him wuts his speed.. its probably 24 mb or something
Sophisticated 20-12-08, 07:48 PM I'm using standard ADSL (512 kb) I think ! and 61 Kb/sec is max I got.
Miss_Nana 20-12-08, 11:03 PM We use standard ADSL from Omantel (512 kb) and the highest speed it reached was 73 kb/sec
DeSerTDesTroYeR 21-12-08, 10:21 AM 3 Mb = 375 KB using a Satellite connection few years ago. It was insane, use and witness the speed things got downloaded.
theKilller 29-12-08, 04:25 PM I have this speed:
down 12mbt and upload: 1mbt
