I want to download programs like Ares or Limewire into my pc - but everytime I do they keep saying that my firewall isn't allowing me to search or connect!!

How do I get around this?

I usually temporarily shutdown the firewall

You can also change the settings of your firewall's security to minimal

For Windows firewall:
- Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall (turn it off)

If you have an antivirus installed on your computer, then you should see that on your system tray (right bottom of your screen). Double click or right click and properties on the icon for your antivirus. It should have a firewall option... click on it and disable it or turn it off.

Would that make it easier for viruses to get into the pc?

Yeap. And you run a high risk of getting spyware into your system through P2P softwares like Ares, Limewire, Azureus et al.

Fatamoo, you don't have to completely shut down the firewall. You can make exceptions for the programs you don't want firewalled. I'll show you how... BRB.
