Normal members can make polls. You just have to get to a certain number of posts first (100 if I'm not mistaken?) I think the feature was abused before that's why they made this kind of rule. :)

I will tell you why...

It simply because polls can get very messy if not controlled. For example:

1-If you don't specify correct poll items and you want (after members do poll), you won't have the ability to correct it. That is ... there is no edit in poll, because a member can vote one time only in a poll, so if you change a single word in it, it may simply lose its authentication.

2- Polls are public opinion which means it gives a stronger idea supported clearly by an amount of members, so it should be initiated by a responsible knowledgeable moderator aware of the consequences of an offensive or improper poll.

3- Moderators have the power to edit wrong posts, can't give members such power to act on their wish in a case which it will be a complete miss, and can't deny it from them as mentioned in point one.

4- Polls are limited by time which is tied up with many other elements related to administration which can't be just open to a large scale forum like this. If so happened, there will be numerous amount of posts which will request cancellation of such polls where some member feel that it is not proper to be initiated. This will create more problems and uneasiness among members, which may guide to haltered and revenge threads.

Most of the other forums allow members 2 do so...
I have quite few threads that I wanted 2 create which required poll, but I didnt, coz I find it silly to do the thread & in the bottom to state Mods plz create a poll 4 me :(

It's disabled because members can abuse that option by starting way too many un-necessary polls in the forum.

If anyone wants a poll and the team find it reasonable then we'll just create it for you without any fuss. :)

yeah i think we should have the option to make a poll ourselves ,, i dont think itll make a difference,, if the mods didnt like the poll then just edit it ,, right ?
its kindda stupid to ask permission for a poll,, and itll take time till the mods read the request and create a poll ,,, maybe by then that thread will be old,, and members already viewed it and posted and dont know that a poll has been created ,, thats a bigger mess i guess,,

if you contact the Moderator responsible for a section or one of the Admins it wont take time AS long as its a reasnble Poll and Qualitative one helps in creating a wonderfull aimfull discussion ;)
