SULAIMANIYAH, Iraq Kurdistan's president has ordered the Iraqi national flag to be replaced with a Kurdish flag.
That's according to local officials in Iraq's northern autonomous region.
Iraq's Kurds have been slowly gaining power since the U-S-led invasion of Iraq, and the move Friday appeared to be another step toward self-rule.
The Kurdish region had been out of Saddam Hussein's control since the 1991 Gulf War, when the Kurds set up under the protection of U-S and British warplanes.
Sunni Arabs fear that Kurds are pushing for secession under the nation's new federal system. They also don't want to see the Shiite majority in oil-rich southern Iraq follow the Kurd's lead.
Iraq's new constitution allows for self-rule but within the Iraqi state.

Do you think they will do this without the US permission?
Is Iraq a divided country now?
