You find in every single social circle.

Social climbers: people who think that their 'place' in society is of absolute 100% utmost importance and they do whatever it takes to get themselves to the 'top tier' of society, where you are considered elite, or 'anybody whos anybody'.

Wow there are a lot of speech marks in that definition, lol, but I can't help being a bit sarcastic when talking about people like that.

What do you think of them? Do you know any people who are like that? Honestly, do you think you've ever been like that sometimes? :cutexD:

I never had any place in society and I never fought for one. I've always liked a circle of friends and I've always liked to be loyal to them.

In a way, though, I respect their practicality and single-mindedness. I have lots of other faults that they don't have. Still, the ones I admire the most are the ones who achieved a lot just by being so good at what they do that they can't help but succeed and be respected.

I thought I new some people like that, but recently, I came in close contact with TRUE social climbers ... and I was shocked!!! It's like all they think about night and day is how to hang out with a certain crowd :o!! I thought people like that only exist in novels and movies and stuff... but I was wrong!

It had its good and bad point. Good being that you turn into more of a social character, someone easily approachable who has lots of contacts and can get things done. Negative side is if they start differentiating themselves from the introvert types and maybe even go to extremes to not be associated with them.

Being social is good as long as it comes off naturally, like you were born with it and if you do it in moderation and still remember people you met along your rise to top.

Why do I feel like I'm totally off the topic? :os

The reason why I brought it up is because everytime I watch somethin on tv or read about high schools in places like the states, there is always an intense focus on the social part, specifically like people who are trying soooo hard to hang out with the 'cool crowd' or whatever.

Honestly, I've never witnessed that in school, so I was wondering where that came from!

Besides school though, I have noticed it in real life and stuff, and it's interesting to see cause no one really admits theyre doing it but I think you can spot a social climber a mile away :p.

Life now-a-days dectates people to follow and be abide by their interests. They will do whatever it takes to get them what they want even it means stepping on others. In a way, I agree with Jeff that they earn that respect by being good performers. I believe there are many in every society to be honest and I dont see anything bad with it. Why not hang around with someone that you think you can add something to you life be it a doctor, lawyer, pilot or even a good social talker who you can make networks through him. I think we should think out of the 'box' for a minute ;)

PS. Honestly..I'm not that type of person but sometimes I do it mainly to earn knowledge or good company..thats all.
