Nostradamus His poetic yet cryptic quatrains are claimed by some to conceal information about future events. He completed a total of 942 quatrains which he organized into Centuries - groups of 100 quatrains (one Century only had 42 quatrains).
Do these writings actually predict the death of popes, rise of tyrants, and natural catastrophes to come?

A quatrain is simply a poem with 4 lines.

The rhymed quatrains of Nostradamus were written mainly in French with a bit of Italian, Greek, and Latin thrown in. He intentionally obscured the quatrains through the use of symbolism and metaphor, as well as by making changes to proper names by swapping, adding or removing letters. The obscuration is claimed to have been done to avoid his being tried as a magician. Of course a skeptic might say it was done so the quatrains could be interpreted to fit numerous situations.

An example of one of his more famous quatrains is from Century #2 Quatrain #24. The French and English versions are as follows:

Bestes farouches de faim fleuues tranner;
Plus part du champ encontre Hister sera,
En cage de fer le grand fera treisner,
Quand rien enfant de Germain obseruera.

Beasts ferocious from hunger will swim across rivers:
The greater part of the region will be against the Hister,
The great one will cause it to be dragged in an iron cage,
When the German child will observe nothing.

So does Hister actually refer to Hitler? An instance of Nostradamus changing letters around? Is this a reference to Germany during WWII?

What are your views ?

Is it possible to see into the future? Many believe that a man named Michel de Nostradamus could. His predictions of the future have mystified scholars for over four hundred years. Nostradamus made over one thousand predictions and SOME historians say that over half of them have already come true.

The three Anti-Christs
Throughout Nostradamus' quatrains he speaks of three powerful and tyrannical leaders that he calls anti-Christs. He said they would lead their people through reigns of terror after first seducing them with promises of greatness. Napoleon is thought to have been the first of these anti-Christs. Of Napoleon's rise to power and years as Emperor Nostradamus wrote:

An Emperor shall be born near Italy.
Who shall cost the Empire dear,
They shall say, with what people he keeps company
He shall be found less a Prince than a butcher.

Napoleon, who was considered a butcher even by his supporters, certainly cost the Empire dearly in both manpower and political strength.

From a simple soldier he will rise to the empire,
From the short robe he will attain the long.
Great swarms of bees shall arise.

After becoming Emperor, Napoleon adopted the beehive as his imperial crest. He was born near Italy on the island of Corsica, a most unlikely place for a ruler of France to come from. Some scholars say that Nostradamus was referring to Napoleon's destruction of Moscow when he wrote:

A great troop shall come through Russia.
The destroyer shall ruin a city.

Napoleon's forces attatcked too far into the country, and got trapped in the Russian winter. The following verse resembles what could have been Napoleon's retreat across the icy part of Russia.

The rear guard will make defense.
The exhausted ones will die in the white territory.

Nostradamus made other predictions of Napoleon's fate:

The great Empire will soon be exchanged for a small place.
Which will soon begin to grow.
A small place of tiny area in the middle of which
He will come to lay down his scepter.

The captive prince, conquered, is sent to Elba;
He will sail across the Gulf of Genoa to Marseilles.
By a great effort of the foreign forces he is overcome,
Though he escaped the fire, his bees yield blood by the barrel.

Napoleon was exiled to the small island of Elba but escaped for 100 days. After a defeat at Waterloo he relinquished all power for exile on tiny St. Helena.

The second anti-Christ Nostradamus wrote about was "a man stained with murder...the great enemy of the human race...one who was worse than any who had gone before...bloody and inhuman." Experts are in agreement that the sixteenth century prophet was referring to Adolf Hitler.

Out of the deepest part of the west of Europe,
From poor people a young child shall be born,
Who with his tongue shall seduce many people,
His fame shall increase in the Eastern Kingdom.

Adolf Hitler, born in Austria of poor parents, with his knowledge of mob psychology and powers of speech, was successful in seducing many people , even in the Eastern Empire of Japan. In some quatrains Nostradamus refers to Hitler as the child or sometimes captain of Germany. Here are two examples:

He shall come to tyrannize the land.
He shall raise up a hatred that had long been dormant.
The child of Germany observes no law.
Cries, and tears, fire, blood, and battle.

A captain of Germany shall come to yield himself by false hope,
So that his revolt shall cause great bloodshed.

All of these images certainly describe Adolf Hitler. After seducing his people, Hitler ignored all treaties and began a massive invasion of Europe. In the following verse, some experts say that Nostradamus actually referred to Hitler by name but missed by one letter. (A side note : "Hister" is the ancient name for the river Danube also.)

Beasts wild with hunger will cross the rivers
The greater part of the battlefield will be against Hister.

Finally, Nostradamus sums up Hitler's life and even predicts the fact that his death in Berlin in 1945 would never be confirmed:

Near the Rhine from the Austrian mountains
Will be born a great man of the people, come too late.
A man who will defend Poland and Hungary
And whose fate will never be certain.

To be continued ...

The 3rd and final Anti-Christ Interesting ;)
According to Nostradamus, the first two anti-Christs were extremely evil, and history has shown this to be so; however, Nostradamus speaks of a third anti-Christ who is more hideous than all the others combined. Some have said Sadaam Hussein, the dictator from Iraq (proved false now), or even Osama Bin Laden. Could he be this evil tyrant? Others say that he has not yet appeared. What does Nostradamus say about this third anti-Christ? First, Nostradamus tells us he will come from the Middle East.

Out of the country of Greater Arabia Shall be born a strong master of Mohammed,
He will enter Europe wearing a blue turban.
He will be the terror of mankind.
Never more horror.

Here, Nostradamus says that a man from Greater Arabia will lead his forces on an invasion through Europe. This invasion will start a third world war that will be far worse than all the other wars put together. When will all this take place? In one quatrain Nostradamus gives us an exact date in which the war will be well under way.
In the year 1999 and seven months
From the sky will come the great King of Terror.
He will bring back to life the King of the Mongols;
Before and after war reigns.

Nostradamus predicts the war will begin shortly before the year 1999. It doesn't make much sense to this author, but many are now saying that the 'war' was set 'in motion' in 1999, and now after Septermeber 11th these things are going to come true... as we are now 'at war with terror.' Interpret it how you will. He also tells us how long the war will last.

The war will last seven and twenty years. (so 27 years)

Nostradamus says that the war will be so terrible that the world will come face to face with final annihilation. Here, he implies that the war might involve some kind of horrible weapon, possibly nuclear. Nostradamus tells what the first target will be.

The sky will burn at forty-five degrees.
Fire approaches the great new city.

In this phrase, Nostradamus refers to a great city in the new world of America near forty-five degrees latitude. Experts agree this could only be New York. I know many of you are thinking of other websites that claim this means he predicted September 11th. Again, interpret it how you will. The sky did burn at 45 degrees, but New York was not destroyed, nor was it a nuclear attack.

By fire he will destroy their city,
A cold and cruel heart,
Blood will pour,
Mercy to none.

Although Nostradamus 's predictions for our future sound frightening, the accuracy and dates he gave do not seem to flow. Are they being misinterpreted, or are they just plain wrong? Is the New City at 45 degrees yet to be destroyed? He does give us some hope by telling us how this third world war will end. He says it will end as a result of an unexpected alliance.

When those of the Northern Pole are united,
In the East will be great fear and dread...
One day the two great leaders will be friends;
Their great powers will be seen to grow.
The New Land will be at the height of its power:
To the man of blood the number is reported.

Again, the new land was a common term used by Nostradamus to refer to what we now call America. The countries of the northern pole could be Russia and the United States. We have recently seen the breakdown of Communism in Russia and an increasing friendship between Russia and the U.S. Perhaps the two countries will work together against the source of evil.

Q. Isn't 'Mabus' (II.62) the third Antichrist after all, then?

A. All Nostradamus says about 'Mabus' is that he will die!

While the fact is rather striking that the last US ambassador to Saudi
Arabia was Raymond E Mabus, Governor of Mississippi, it is probably
more relevant that Jan Gossaert de MABUSE, the Flemish painter, diedon
October 1st 1532. In that same year the Emperor Charles V finally
managed to push back the Muslim Ottoman hordes from before the very
gates of Vienna - thus 'avenging' their previous 'laying waste of man
and beast alike'. In the same year, too, there was a particularly
bright comet - though not Halley's, which had returned the previous
year. The astrological situation between 14th and 18th September 1532
Julian (it seemsto have been N's normal practice to take the situation
shortly before the event, as though trying to pinpoint the 'causes'
rather than the event itself) had

sun in Libra
moon moving from Pisces to Taurus
Mercury in Libra
Venus in Scorpio
Mars in Libra

The next time the same situation occurs (I have not so far managed to
find a match involving Jupiter and Saturn as well - but N seems
normally to have been satisfied with such five-planet matches) is
between 18th and 23rd October 2002 (Gregorian) - which is when, if we
follow N's normal logic, the same sequence of events ought therefore
to follow too. It should therefore involve the death of a prominent
painter, a comet, and the halting or throwing back of a Muslim
invasion - apparently somewhere to the south of Lisbon.

Meanwhile, my 2003 book has:

II.62. Original 1555 text

Mabus puis tost alors mourra, viendra
De gens & bestes une horrible defaite:
Puis tout à coup la vengence on verra
Cent, main, soif, faim, quand courra la comete.

Read as modern French:

destruction

Sang humain

Then, Mabus shortly dying, there shall be
Of man and beast a massacre most dread.
Then suddenly they’ll awful vengeance see:
Thirst, famine, blood, with comet overhead.

Source: Accounts of the events of 1532, when a notable daylight comet
(not Halley’s) marked the death of the prominent Flemish painter Jan
Gossaert de Mabuse in October and the bloody repulsing of the Ottoman
invaders in Hungary by the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. What was
subsequently to become known as Halley’s comet had already been
observed, and would duly be recorded by Lycosthenes, if possibly for
the wrong year: ‘This year in the middle of August a Comet was seen in
Germany, Italy and France in the west for three weeks from around 6
August . . . before sunrise and at dusk after sunset. It passed
through Cancer, Leo, Virgo and Libra, where it ceased to be visible,
and did not appear any more thereafter. In the same year . . . the
greater part of the forces of Soliman were captured or cut down . . .
There are those who say that this Comet bodes ill and portends
calamitous war for the Swiss . . . Apianus [chief astrologer of the
Emperor Charles V] has recorded his observations of the motion of this
Comet. There also exists an [astrological] assessment of this Comet by
Theophrasus Paracelsus.’ Then, in a further passage subsequently
translated by Batman: In the moneth of September a Comet was seene
again in Virgo, and in ye house of Mercury for certayne weekes, two
houres in the morning before the sunne rising, and in the East part
which lasted 3. whole moneths, the flame was very terrible, for in
greatnesse and continuance he surpassed the other Comet which we saw
the yere past. The famous Doctor of Phisick Achilles Gassarus and John
Virdungus Hastiodus a notable Astrologer hath described and interprete
this Comet. Charles’s victory over the Turks in Hungary in 1532 was
followed only three years later by his triumphant attack on the Muslim
pirate Barbarossa at Tunis and his freeing of thousands of Christian
captives (see II.79, VI.70) - reflecting the Mirabilis liber’s
prediction of a vast Muslim invasion of Europe (see I.9, I.75, II.24)
followed eventually by a triumphant Christian counter-attack (see
I.55).

Hmmmmm Interesting !!

Now let me add this and I will try to shorten it :)

THE "W" PROPHECY
DID NOSTRADAMUS USE "DUBIEUX" (DOUBTFUL ONE) TO NAME PRESIDENT BUSH BY HIS NICKNAME, "DUBIYA"?

Four years ago on the eve of President Bush's first inauguration, a hoax Nostradamus prophecy described the new president as "The Village Idiot." On the rainy and chilly day of his first inauguration, Bush's armor plated limousine and serried ranks of armed secret service guards were momentarily stopped by a crowd of 10,000 protesters along Pennsylvania Avenue. They were demonstrating against the questionable election shenanigans in Florida that they believed robbed the rightfully elected president, Al Gore, of his presidency. Among the many placard messages melting in the freezing rain was the "Village Idiot" label.
Now it is four years later. On this day following President Bush's second inauguration, it is time to reexamine an authentic prophecy from the 16th-century French seer Nostradamus that may present his authentic label for the US president. It contains such rare and obvious clues to make it a sure prophecy for "Dubiya," the much cherished and well-known nickname for President Bush. Century 6 Quatrain 13 of Nostradamus' prophetic masterpiece from the 1550s says:
Vn dubieux ne viendra loing du regne,
La plus grand part le voudra soustenir:
Vn Capitole ne voundra point qu'il regne,
Sa grande change ne pourra maintenir.
A doubtful one will not come far from the realm,
The greater part will want to support him:
A Capitol, will not want him to rule at all,
His great burden he will not be able to maintain.

Nostradamus had a passion for hiding major historical figures behind their nicknames, especially if the nickname draws a wicked pun in old French. He only used the word "dubieux" (dubious or doubtful one) and its variant "dubieuse" once in over 36,000 words of his major prophetic work about the future of the world. The rarity is significant. It brings interpretive pressure to bare on its application to one important person in his future history, rather than using this word generally. An obscure Nostradamus prophecy becomes clear when an interpreter uses the right word as a key that unlocks its secrets. The word "dubieux/dubieuse" unlocks two quatrains (6 Q13 and 6 Q95) revealing a similar theme of two leaders, a father and son, and their checkered destinies. Are these the father--former President George Herbert Walker Bush (1988-1992)--and his son, George W. Bush?
This leader, at least from Nostradamus' point of view is a doubtful and dubious one. That means he is someone that bears the burden of illegitimacy in the seat of power. He could be one untrained and unprepared for the job thrust to him by means or the fate of being born the scion of either a royal or political dynasty. He is a "doubtful" man expected to follow his father to the seat of power who is less equipped emotionally and intellectually for the job. It is someone who could have great visions without a grasp of reality to see them fulfilled.. It is true, that many of these caveats can be applied to a whole assortment of mediocre or ill-starred leaders since Nostradamus composed these lines sometime in 1556. Indeed this prophecy was applied by me in 1997 to a great though flawed leader, President Richard Nixon, and the Watergate scandal in my book "Nostradamus: The Complete Prophecies" (http://www.hogueprophecy.com/ncomplet.htm).

A highly contentious debate in America over Bush's legitimacy as a leader has only intensified in four years, yet so has his support. A sight majority of Americans believe Bush is a bold leader in war. He is a man of God in the White House and a compassionate conservative poised to revolutionize the country. However, to that half of the United States and the majority of the world that sees him as a dangerous, unilateralist "cowboy" president, they might find support in Nostradamus' pun for "dubious" Dubiya. His detractors will remind us of Bush's record breaking deficit spending, his cutting taxes by trillions of dollars just when the nation finds itself needing to finance and fight a global world war of terrorism. One might call the president dubious for diverting US forces away from seeking and destroying the perpetrator of such a war--al-Qaeda and Usama bin Laden hiding in Afghanistan--to invade Iraq. Is it not "dubious" to invade a country that has not attacked the US in the war on terror? If I invaded a country, cut tax revenue while draining the coffers of the nation by hundreds of billions of dollars--several billion a month--without any exit strategy, or post war strategy plan, would you not call me a doubtful one? It is nearly two years since Bush led America into Iraq. After a brief war and the violence of the endless post "liberation" period, 100,000 Iraqis had been killed. They are mostly civilians. Another 1,400 American soldiers have been killed and nearly 12,000 wounded in a subsequent insurrection for which Bush and his administartion never planned. But if the butcher's bill for this war is not proof enough of doubtful leadership, we recently find out from the Bush administration that his original reason for killing and maiming all those people actually never existed. The grounds for going to war, ridding Iraq of weapons of mass destruction, was a fluke. It is official. There are no weapons.

Last Part about Bush THE "W" PROPHECY:

detractor accuses G.W. Bush of scandal when he is fully engaged in a great war, much more wide spread and risky than experienced today. The president could be fighting a losing battle of occupation in Iraq sometime after July of 2005. He could rashly widen the war across the Middle East with a joint US-Israeli air strike on Iran to take out its nuclear industries. A military crisis with North Korea and with China over Taiwan could add to this president's overwhelming war burden any time after late July 2005 through September 2007 when Saturn transits Leo--a time of intolerance, partisan mindsets and war. At the darkest hour of war, scandal undermines this president, or worse. He must answer those who question his military blunders, or even question his mental capacity to be president of the US.
...The least part doubtful for the elder one...
History already views the father, the "elder" Bush, as an accomplished unilateralist better able to establish and sustain military and economic alliances. The younger Bush is a unilateralist who in four short years has abandoned treaties and isolated the US from its allies and friends more thoroughly than any modern US president in history. This line may infer that a second term of Bush the "minor" will only sweeten the memory of Bush the "major" as a better president than his son.
...And soon in the kingdom there will be patrician deeds.
The word "partiaux" is a classic Nostradamian double-entendre for the old French "partial"--partisan. It also means "patrician." The line could promise partisan debates in the House and Senate over Bush's capacity to be president. If Bush became a liability to the future of the neo-Conservative revolution he would be "removed" one way or another by his own patrician class--the rising plutocracy that one now sees emerging in America. This is the same power class that would pit one member of the Yale secret society--Skull and Bones--against another in the 2004 election: the Democrat J.F. Kerry against the Republican G.W.Bush.
I have often said that the next president might be Senator Hillary Clinton leading a resurgent and "partisan" Democratic Party. However, let me set forth a few prophetic caveats. The Democratic Party cannot attain the White House and a majority in the House and Senate in 2008 if they do not support their reformers. I would consider it a sign of hope for them to win in 2008 if next month (February 2005) the party leadership should elect a reformer like Howard Dean as Chairman of the party. If they do not, then the emerging "patrician," plutocracy of CEOs may rule this country for eight more years.
Strangely enough, scandal and tragedy may help the patrician aim. If the president were to fall from office in disgrace or die in office, his Vice President, Dick Cheney--his chief adviser for the neo-Conservative plutocracy--would step in as president. Look then to Cheney choosing a Vice President who will become the heir apparent of the neo-Con movement in the White House. Next, a health crisis with Cheney's heart, true or fabricated, could see him step down as president or die in office. Thus Cheney's Vice President, chosen for him by the plutocracy, could successfully run for office and perhaps lengthen their stay in power for another four to eight years.
A less seditious future destiny would see President Bush endure all crises and astrological curses to successfully finish his second term. Nevertheless, it is clear to me that Cheney's plutocratic duty is to step down before the end of Bush's term. Thus he will defer to a younger Vice President who will run against Hillary Clinton in 2008--and if he wins, the heir to G.W.
