View Full Version : Help lines
Endure Whisper 26-08-06, 12:05 PM Do you think if we had free help lines in Oman, it would be a good thing? Do you think the government should start something like that?
How much do you trust help lines in terms of being truly able to HELP someone? Or do you think it's just about talking and releasing your stress?
Let's hear your views on this.
Why do we need help lines if we have the Quran. The following verse gives the solution:
الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَطْمَئِنُّ قُلُوبُهُمْ بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ أَلَا بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ الْقُلُوبُ
Those who believed (in the Oneness of Allâh - Islâmic Monotheism), and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allâh: Verily, in the remembrance of Allâh do hearts find rest.
Endure Whisper 26-08-06, 12:22 PM Of course, Quran is our guide to everything, but when we're down, stressed or having troubles, we talk to people. We seek for guidance and advices! So do you think help lines would be help since some people since they are taking out their anger on stress on people they don't know?
For example, I am a very reserved person who wouldn't talk to anybody about my problems. I deal with them myself which is not healthy because sometimes I feel like exploding. I have too many trust issues.
Cute_Ting 26-08-06, 12:55 PM ...we have help lines here l0o0ol...& we prank call them saying im 13 and i masterbate wut should i do and my parents beat me for expressing my love to the same sex l0o0o0o0ol its too funny ((i know im mean sometimes))

Cute_Ting 26-08-06, 01:10 PM We do?! I didn't know!!!!
Sorry i should've said where iam, i meant that not in Omani...ma bad
oh well i know if you seek for religious help there are numbers to call here in Oman but for complaining  that i dont know and well im not sure if it is a good solution, just like brother Ice Tea said, nothing better than Quran or maybe seek for help from inside not only good for you but good for your relation with ur family members :)
Fdaitny 26-08-06, 03:57 PM I don't think it would be a good idea to have help lines here in Oman! Already the operator is enough trouble! :D Lol! But we don't help lines here..
fatamooo 26-08-06, 04:04 PM Help lines are always a good thing, but I think Omani people as a whole are too reserved to talk about personal things, to strangers. And the odds are that the people who are helping are people we might now anyways, after all Oman is a smaaalll place and everyone knows the other. :p
BliNd_MelOn 26-08-06, 06:03 PM What about help lines for abused children? (sexually and physically).. Are there any help lines for those?
What about help lines for suicidal people.. ?Im sure we dont have it here.. but do you think we should?
Sweety, regarding the religious help lines, would you know the numbers? Could you provide them??
after all Oman is a smaaalll place and everyone knows the other. :p
Oman is not Qurm only ;)
If Oman is small than what is Bahrain or Qatar?
ToomuchaT 26-08-06, 07:33 PM .. not yet, i think!! .. we need to improve the technical support help lines for telecommunication *first time to see how long that word is :os* stuff!!
ChiefColombo 27-08-06, 09:58 AM I think help lines could be benificial to some people,
but the problem is that those who need the help, will not know about it, or will not be bothered to use the help lines to get help.

BliNd_MelOn 28-08-06, 05:30 PM 24600605 & 24603267
Great Thanks Sweety!!
They might be of different sector, but then again, the basics are united. it never hurts to have such numbers when you want to inquire about somewhat general and not controversial issues. :)

It might as well be :p and bahrain o qatar nafs il-salfa lol.
I'm just saying people who need help would probably want to remain anonymous, and that's hard to do when there's a good chance the person you're asking for help might be related to you :o
BliNd_MelOn your welcome :cute:
just call and ask for the shai5, if he is not there then they might help you. I found it quite helpfule couple of times
Endure Whisper 29-08-06, 09:40 AM I'm just saying people who need help would probably want to remain anonymous, and that's hard to do when there's a good chance the person you're asking for help might be related to you :o
But this is what also happens in other countries. People who call for help don't need to give out their identity. They seek for help and that's it. It's upto the caller whether he/she would like to give out their names.
fatamooo 29-08-06, 11:29 AM Yep that's true, but I still think people are going to have a hard time adjusting to it - people here are used to keeping problems and family things, within the family, and would be hesitant to open up to strangers/non-strangers :p
Wit Insanity 29-08-06, 01:11 PM Sure. Help lines are always a good thing. I don't see anything negative about them.
i guess there should be..
