I believe we werent born with fear, we learnt and gained it from our experiences...but, I wonder are there positive and negative effects of fear? and is it a shameful? why do most people feel afraid to show their fear?

Well you're right about fear having positive and negative effects, for example..The fear of god - that's positive.
Sometimes fear can stop you from doing many things, for example..The fear of being in a midst of a large crowd, or being afraid of what people might say or think of you..e.g you bought a new bag or clothing item but realise that people might start talking about your lousy fashion sense so you have second thoughts..thats the negative part.
The only thing you could do about that is to face your fear..it might not be as bad as you think.

fear can be useful sometimes ... (a line said by one of the Greek kings to Achilies (sp?) in Troy :p )
some don't wanna show it cuz it might make people label them as cowards...
but you either be a coward and avoid what could harm you or brave and stupid.
for example you may be brave and go running towards a whole line of people with machine guns... but I would call that brave and dumb!
A smart person would fear doing that because he/she knows the chance of them surviving is very low...
Be afraid when fear is necessary to keep you alert... and brave when you have to be...
In Lord Of The Rings: Gandalf told Frodo the story of the wraiths...and why they were in Bree... now after Frodo Knew they were after him and his ring and knew how frightful they are... he claimed that he was afraid.
Gandalf said you should be! And I hope you're afraid enough!
Now here Fear was labeled as something that would Trigger one's conscience and make him step carefully and become alert. Being that way is good... as long as you know how to be careful... bravery would describe those who could react despite their fears.
I think I'll stop there :p... nice topic Obli.
Fear can be positive and negative ... positive if it saved you from doing things dangerous/stuiped ... and negative if it stopped you from doing the right thing in the right time !! It's kinda of complecated and person alone can choose how to handle his/her fear.
Many afraid ( we even use fear here ) to show their fear to public so they won't be addressed as coward ( which everyone is in some points )

We need fear in our lives. Usually we associate fear with pain, but pain is a biological response to prevent you from something that will cause your body harm. If someone had just no pain threshold, they could walk all over barbed wire till they bled to death, and they wouldn't have realized it.
I think fear is similar to that, but on a more emotional level. If you're instinctively afraid of something, it means your mind is telling you there is something wrong with that situation and you should probably avoid, or re-assess it.

Fear develops after an experience. If you had a bad experience with something, then your fear is strongly to laid at that direction.
I had two bad experiences with air planes, and now whenever I travel by air, I get really scared and have the weirdest imaginations about plane explosions.

I fear Fear....
