I had a question in mind when I went to the farm a few times..

they're studying on the history of ostriches and said that they could be ridden and are pretty fast... frankly speaking they're even faster than horses...
now in history I always heard people used either camels or horses to get from one place to the other...
now I'm serious about this...

howcome have I never heard of people using ostriches as a form of transportation?

Ah i remember the good old days of using donkey kong to ride expresso, the ostrich.. truly an awesome game. ostriches are quite big and i think they are capable of transporting people.. like the chocobos :p

EDIT:
From wiki:

"Ostriches are large enough for a small human to ride them; typically, the human will hold on to the wings while riding. They have been trained in some areas of northern Africa and Arabia as racing mounts. Ostrich races in the United States have been criticized by animal rights organizations, however there is little possibility of this becoming a widespread practice due to the fact that the animals are difficult to saddle (and ostriches are known to have a rather irascible temper"

EDIT AGAIN: Looks like we arabs did use ostriches for transportation.. however the middle eastern ostrich became extinct.

"After the rise of Islam, the Arabian Ostrich came to represent wealth and elegance; ostrich hunting became a popular pastime for the rich and noble (if butchered properly, ostrich meat is halaal to Muslims) and eggs, feathers and leather were extensively used in handicraft. Arabian Ostrich products as well as live birds were exported as far as China. A Tang Dynasty source states the "camel bird" inhabiting Arabia is "four chi and more in height, its feet resembling those of a camel; its neck is very strong, and men are able to ride on its back...". "

Speaking of eating ostrich, I tried it and let me tell you it wasn't all that. A little like chicken, but definitely not better.

Ostriches??
As you are serious, i think becasue they are not that much of them available all over and also they have 2 legs and that for sure is a weakness compared to having four like horses, camels and donkeys.:os

They're scary looking. They can poke you in the eye and snatch your eye balls away to have it for breakfast. No, thank you, I would rather stick to animals that don't have beaks to poke anything!

^^ come on Nella... they've feathers :p... I'm sure they'll serve some comfort :p
I was surprised some are scared of the beak... they've very weak beaks... if I were you I'd look down at their feet... that's what they attack with...and yes that's strong enough to kill you...

but there are ostriches that are tame and ridable...
I did hear the arabian one became extinct though... so I guess that was one reason why they weren't used around here in the past...

another thing I heard was that they get tired quite easily... so perhaps that's also a reason...
any further info would be welcome...thanks for contributing :p...
