View Full Version : Abortions in Oman
fatamooo 18-07-06, 03:38 AM About a year ago, I was talking to someone about all the craziness going on in the states with the teen pregnancy. I said, I mean it's not like that stuff happens here!
But then I started thinking about it, and I realized, it's probably that I just don't know about it, not that it's not happening.
What is the incidence of teen (out of wedlock) pregnancy in Oman?
Where do people go to get abortions? Is it even legal?
Does anyone even know?
So far I know of two friends of friends who have had abortions, but I mean that's a drop in the bucket compared to what goes on in other countries, so there must be more right?
Rossonero 18-07-06, 03:52 AM My sister had an abortion twice because for some reason the baby died in his 4th or 5th month I guess, no she aint a teen she's married
Well Why Should we have Abortions her in Oman????
Firts we are Muslim.... living in a muslim Country where Illegal SEX is:6: Evil and not allowed... then I expect NO ABORTION because we a neat and clean..:color:
There are a couple of unregistered places were you could have an abortion illegally. I know a couple of people who've had abortions because they got pregnant practicing premarital sex and wanted to get rid of the "evidence".
I've also heard of one who had an abortion, became pregnant again, and had another abortion. You'd think one would learn and regret but I guess not. It seems they find it easy to have an abortion since it's cheap and they're many places to abort a baby in Oman.
fatamooo 18-07-06, 02:55 PM Damn! I didn't know that - but isn't it dangerous to go to an unregistered abortion clinic? There's no guarantee that it's a safe, clean place...
Oh well, I guess if they're willing to go through it, that's the least of their worries.
Are there really a lot of abortion clinics in Oman?
I heard Nandos is having a special on the second Thursday of the month.....
Two chicken kebab specials and one free abortion......sorry that was sick, but actually I hear thru a very informed source.......most Omani girls in trouble will have this done in Dubai........

Fdaitny 18-07-06, 03:26 PM Not only is it illegal, but it's a sin, because you're killing another soul. So most or all registered clinics aren't allowed to give abortions. I wonder if it's legal in Thailand!
X-press 18-07-06, 03:35 PM There are cases of teen pregnancies in Oman and of course they are not publicly revealed. I have never come across any statistics. Some teens do deliver (without their parents knowledge) and often abandon their newborn (bin, mosque, beach). Others have an abortion done at a early stage of their pregnancies. I understood that it is illegal in Oman, unless if medically speaking it is threatening the woman's life.
I personally do not know which clinics do these 'underground' abortions, but again I heard that some are located in the Ruwi area and that the process is rather quick. I believe doing an abortion under such condition and most probably under inadequate hygiene, can be very dangerous...
Oblivious 18-07-06, 04:07 PM Ok, what if she was raped then got pregnant? I dont think it's 7aram to go for abortion..right?
If she was raped then she sould report it , and the law forces that jerk to pay, I dont remamber the law about this one , but one of the rules that there is an option that he marry her if the both parties agree.
Pregnancy dont just happen , if you were raped and you reported it , then you will be checked clinicly and if the spirms went in then it can be stopped. you wont have to reach the abortion level.

what do you mean that she doesn't have to reach the abortion level? Can they know whether she's pregnant immediately after she has been raped? I guess the answer no, and once she is pregnant, then all she can do to get rid of the "baby" is abort, no matter how long the "baby" has been in his/her mothers' womb. Even if she is one day pregnant, then to get rid of the baby, they'd have to abort.

I agree Lym, I was just about to ask about that myself.
I know that if you were raped or had sexual intercourse and sperm has gone in, you are able to prevent urself from falling pregnant. The trick is;
Buy any contraception pill and take 2 tablets as soon as possible and then take 2 tablets again the very next day. That will prevent you from falling pregnant. After you have taken the tablets in about 5-7 days you will get your periods. In Australia we actually sell morning after pill, it is exactly the same as the contraception pill exept that it is a double dosage in one tablet, its another way for the pharmacueticals to make $$$$. And its not haram, although I follow a Marjah.
I think arabian bella answered you ,, when you got raped and you suspect that the sperm is gone in , then just take the pills. and that how you prevent pregnancy :)
BliNd_MelOn 22-07-06, 12:27 PM I wonder if it's legal in Thailand!
I think everything is legal in Thailand

I haven't heard of any abortion cases here in Oman as a result of unwanted pregnancy and premarital sex. But I wouldn't be surprised.. It's happening everywhere.. And as Lym said, it's funny when it happens more than once!! Eh.. These girls simply don't care..
As for abortion itself, we all know it's allowed if giving birth puts the mother's life in danger.. and I think before the baby becomes whole (or something).
Also, if pregnancy was a result fo rape, she is allowed to get rid of the baby..
Abdullah II 22-07-06, 12:55 PM it does happen, i knew some guys got their girls pregnant and they looked for bills and other ways to get ride of the baby.
there are people who sell those pills for a lot of money ( 300 rials if am not mistaken). and just like lym has mentioned there are a couple of unregistered places were you could have an abortion illegally.

Don't expect Einstein
There's a lot of sh!t in Oman, Muslim country, although is forbidden by law or haram or sometimes also allowed by government.
So if it makes you sleep better keep on believing you're in wonderland but is not like that.
FluidNutria 22-07-06, 04:22 PM For some reason i cant get my head to agree with abortion no matter what the case is ... :s just my opinion.
