View Full Version : Abroad
Many of you study/are studying abroad and away from your home. Hopefully I'm about to go to a country very far from here, and learn a new language from scratch before entering college.
From your experiance, what advice and tips would you like to give ? What things should I keep in mind ?
Thanks in advance.
*NK 105* 19-06-06, 08:03 AM ^^ Scratch that.. don't try.. just BE urself.
Keep an open mind, and dont let the culture shock freak u out.
And just remember to have fun!! :)
Get involved in activities. Meet people. Don't be intimidated by anything; be confident and secure within yourself. Balance between school work and having fun. Don't let loose and forget who you are, where you came from. Know that its not home, but you gotta make it do for now so find happiness where you can.
Somehow I knew that only girls will reply here. Anyways... So its all about confidence and being natural, you know although it sounds something simple and very easy to do, but its not really that easy to just be myself.
Thanks for the replies and the help ladies.

Just remember that your country is the best and the experience you must have out must be useful for when you are back
Oblivious 19-06-06, 02:19 PM He said hopefully!!! ok..we'll talk about that later :(, i didn't like that:(
Well, I think...concentrate on ur studies, and have all the FUN u can have..make it the time of your life, as they said, don't let the culture shock u, and be opened to everything that's new..
And, don't forget about us:(
amo_l_oman 19-06-06, 02:25 PM I remember many moons ago :weep: i was enthusiast to out of home for uni, freedom and responsability.
Just when i hear Gulfians speaking of Uni, they feel more than enthusiast, is like they wanna run away and never come back.
Your countries need you, not fair when you talk like that : true maybe that you get bored or dnt get much here, but you should try to solve the problem.
Sorry to divert from main topic.
Oblivious 19-06-06, 02:28 PM Btw, he's not living in his home country, so..it's not the deal lol
you will face many many different kinds of people. some will be as sucky as hell but from my experience, i took a lil of everything out of my encounters and put them all together ...and believe it or not you learn ALOT. even from weird creepos. you have past experience on how to deal and so next time you wont have any problems.
conclusion: learn from every tiny winy thing you do. it helps you grow
ps dont forget your religion once your away from home.
NiGhTFaCe 19-06-06, 03:38 PM Dont look for girls :bored:
In my experience the first thing u should remember to have :
omani embassy phone no.
make a copy of your passport keep copy in oman
always remember to ask if there is a mosque and go visit the imam let him know where u stay.in the mosque u can found a lot of muslim and u can have place to go special on ramadhan or eid , or any other thing .

Libellula 01-07-06, 02:14 AM ~ Please, please, please don't just stick to Arabs. The whole point of getting out there is to meet new people, experience new things, get to know different cultures. It really annoys me when I see people who just hang out with those from their own home country, because then they never really experience anything new. You might as well have stayed in your country, if that's the case!
~ Know your limits. Don't do anything you wouldn't do in the presence of people who you respect.
~ Have as much fun as possible (without crossing any lines), but take your studies seriously as well.
~ You should be confident, strike up conversations with people, don't just loaf around and wait for someone to approach you.
