View Full Version : migrating to Oman
Hello Everyone
Recently I had 2 boys. My husband and I are concerned about having our children grow up in the USA because of the lack or religious/islamic values. We started to look into migrating to a country that was primarily islamic. To our disapointment, we found that alot of them had a very dysfunctional economic system (for whatever reason) and the people were dying like flies. The only countries that seemed relatively stable religious and economic wise was the Gulf State (Oman, UAE, Saudi Arabia etc). We started to reseach how we might migrate to one of these countries to live as muslims and to my shock found that we could not. They only allow expatriots to go there to live. So what are we to do, if we go as expatriots then we would have to live in a compound with other westerners when we are not westerners we are muslims and want to live with other muslims, so why can't we??? If anyone has any information for me or can help me in any way, may allah reward you. We really would like to leave the United States but don't know where to go.
Thank you very much for any replies.

Greetings Salima.
Migrating to a Gulf Country is not really an easy issue, specially with Oman, I personally think it’s much easier in UAE instead of Oman, but to be honest, I don’t know much about the immigration laws in Oman, but I whish you and your family all the best and may Allah be with you.
Regards.

Hi bobcat & unknown.
Thanks for the replies, but do you know why there are such restrictions regarding muslims. I think i can understand restricting non-muslims migrating in order to preserve its islamic traditions but I really feel that if you are living in a country that is contradictory to the teachings of islam and would like to make hijra, you should be able to do so..with help even. The Prophet(may Allah bless him) himself had to make hijra, so I think this should be the natural inclination of islamic countries to incourage migration to their countries for muslims. Like I said, I understand their reasons for limited non-muslim migration but I really do not understand that restriction being applied to muslims. If my family has to stay here, then here we will stay, but I really think it is sad that with the world being in the state it is in that we really have nowhere to go. We're trapped here. Would anyone that knows the reasons for these restrictions, please let me know what they are. Thank you kindly and May Allah bless you.
Sincerely,
Salima

Dear Salima ...
One question i got for you which is " What nationality are you, and what made you thought of Oman ?!" Well talkning about imigratin to oman .. that its just quite hard and it has been like that for a long long time . As one of the users said ... that there are ppl who have been here more than 25 years but yet ... they have not been provided with the citizenship!!! .
Well you were asking why there are such restrictions regarding muslims. Well the answer is its not only muslim salima .. its in a general way . Umm I really don't know or not sure why is it that hard to imigrate to Oman .. but i guess its all becuase of the Government ... could be they wouldn't want to population of the country to increase .. but not sure once again whast the real issue .
But you could try to imigrate to a different country such as UAE .. as its way much easier with no problems . Anyways .. I do wish you all the best you and your family and may god bless you too .
Cheers .

Well Salima, Bombat was right about that, as I said earlier, it's not an easy issue, but there are exceptions, it's not that everyone who stayed in Oman for more than 15-20 years never got the citizenship, I wouldn’t like to be specific on who got it and who didn't, but I think the government looks at it on the interest side. It's not really a matter of religion here.
For example, if you’ve been working in Oman for a while with a good reputation and successful business, chances of you getting the citizenship are more likely, I know it somehow sounds stupid, but it's all about shared interests. Oman is a small country and it cannot accept any immigrants, weather they are Muslims or any other religion, that's not the main issue here, I think the reason is because it's a country trying to catch up economically with the other countries in the region and the whole world, it's more of a foreign investment kind of thing.
Salima, I think if you plan to go to Oman and come up with something that the country really needs, then I tell you should try to do that, the beginning is not easy, but things will later work out if you really want to serve that country, after all Oman is the land of opportunities, but I guess they don't come easy. http://www.omania.net/evip/ubb/smile.gif

Thanks again Bobcat & Unknown.
My nationality is Guyanese (born in Guyana, South America) I have been living in the United States for about 12 years. My husband is American was was born muslim. We have also looked into the UAE and other Gulf Arab States but they all have the same restrictions. Anyway since I last posted, my husband and I were researching Syria. They don't seem to have as much problems as some of the other countries, but there are differing opions there. But we will see how it goes. My husband is going to speak to the iman at our mosque for more information because the iman is from syria also. Will let you know how it goes because you took the time to reply to my posts. May Allah Bless you and your family. Thank you again.
