One of my favorite science fields since I like anything or everything related to biology. But what do you people think about Genetic Engineering? Frankly I have loads of crap and feelings about this issue. Because maybe being influenced by religon I think that we are frobbiden from messing with nature, because the consequences of screwing around with it could and will be disastrous. Ofcourse there will be others who think like we always think at first when asked about any similar issue, that we should use these technologies to do stuff that can make the world a better place.. Its not like I dissagree, but am sure this will utilized for an industrial purpose. Some rich guys will obviously see potential in this new technology or there would be no one funding the research, and if that happens it will be to make money. And so money will be the downfall of everything.

Genetic Engineering Very complicated subject to me :) . Yet it goes to prove how complex Human bodies are and how accurate at the same time . The most complicated system and yet so fragile ..Would read more from others who have better knowledge so I may benefit from their views and article which will be posted ..

.. i really dont know much abt it, but from a friend of mine who is doin a PhD in Genetic Engineering in Newzland says it's coplicated BUT interesting especially if you are into biology stuff.
.. also it's one of the majors that has no full stop.. u may creat ur own study from anything about anything withing the sugject which is very useful for students who like to use thier imagination instead of goin through books.
.. about religion and stuff.. i think it's something good to study.. as far as u r seeking knowledge not tryin to challange the creator of this world.. i mean like makin babies n stuff.. and we can see what the result of this .. extremely terrible and horrific results!!
.. i wouldnt study it simply .. i had enough lol.

:) I had an essay to right a couple of monthes ago and it was about genetic engineering i knew about it before but when i resd in depth about it a found it really interesting as fas as i understood it it is actually like any other topic where there is two sides
ppl who agree with it and others who dont!
But out religion being so unique has a gr8 point of view which shows us the effect of such technology and reallyn thank god to be a muslim!
Ok, just add that many muslims have passion for this job, but they don't study it because it usually doesn't match with Islam, specially the origin of the universe.
This was quoted from a non-muslim member in another forum replying to the same topic.
hmmm..

from my point of view only,
I don’t think Genetic Engineering clashes with Islam by any mean,
whatever "Allah" allows us to do with his science that it is something that we were meant to achieve as long as we have good causes for our goals, whether its Genetic Engineering or anything else.
I don’t think Islam is against that.

It depends on what it is used for.. For example lets say a married couple wants a baby, and they can't conceive naturally.. then i'd say theirs nothing wrong with artificial insemination (or IVF).. however, certain technology now allows doctors to seperate the mans X or Y chromosomes and choosing which one they want to bond with the womans X chromosomes.. whereby choosing the sex of the baby (XY=boy, XX=girl). To me, choosing the sex of the baby is like playing God, so in my opinion shouldn't be practiced.

The biggest danger in Genetic Engineering is that of Unintended Consequences - that is, biological systems are so complex that we cannot possibly foresee everything that will happen due to a single change. The challenge is to have wisdom in our controls and be careful in releasing the applications.
Some current applications are perfectly safe - for instance, genetically engineering bacteria to become human insulin factories - thus helping millions of diabetics care for themselves economically and without killing other animals. Others, like engineered microbes that are supposed to eat environmental toxins or increase crop yields, are largely positive but may have unintended consequences - for instance what if the released organism mutates to become a "super-bug" that doesn't die out when the toxin is cleaned up, or genetic recombination with engineered crops leads to "super-weeds" that increase THEIR productivity?
