Sentencing Judge Lord Philip told George McKee, 50, he had committed an "appalling crime" which filled members of the public with "horror".

McKee admitted raping Kerry Muchan, 14, in her Paisley home on 23 July, 2005 while she was unconscious.

difference is that most of those crimes in West are covered by laws and culture
so something can be tried
if i see something against my principles i go to police cause am sure law will help it

Toomuchat, this is not about Western societies, but about a case where a crime was committed by surely a deranged man. Not only it is not normal for a man to rape a girl, let alone his own step-daughter, but it is even more abnormal to rape her under the conditions she was in.

This exemple doesn't reflect how Western socities can be, but how the world is made of crazy people which should be, not only in jail, but under psychiatric supervision.

What are you on about? They very fact that he was at court and his conviction was being upheld means that the West clearly punishes those who transgress!

Plus, if you think that this is bad, you really have't read what sort of criminal cases that come to court!

And abt the rate of crime, unlike the Middle East, at least there is clear transparency!

This has nothing do with tha fact that it took place in the west....it just shows show how sick people in this WORLD could get.

Don't bash the western side of the world with such generalizations....it makes us no different than them when they do the same to us..

Anyway, I don't think that you can generalize and say that this happens in the West all the time. In every society, there are individuals who, given the chance, would commit horrible crimes against others.

The majority does affect our view of a society in general, however this isn't an act carried out by the majority of people. You only feel like it's extremely widespread because it's been publicized more and has received more media coverage than it would had it happened in other parts of the world.

Things like this can happen anywhere in the world. I'm sure it's happened even in the Arab countries, except that it doesn't get publicized, so we don't hear about it. There are sick people everywhere in the world, not just in the West.
