I'm totally with the article. After using the ipod headsets for some time while studying, I seriously started noticing myself having a hard time hearing people properly whenever they are talking with others talking in the background, so I got rid of these ones and got myself some "open-air" headphones that don't screw your ears as much.

Wouldn't that be the case with all earbuds or any headphone that plays loud music into your ears?

iPod earbud aren't the best in comfort and quality ... They get worse by time too

LoL .. that reminds of the good old days .. used to walk around with a walk man everywhere even in the university ... u should have seen the headphone oO too big 4 u Oo,, those were the days.

anyways back to the topic :D..
dosnt the ipod have a limiter i remember my sony walkman had one. the limiter will automaticly set the volume to a level that dosnt harm the ears * not sure about it *. when ever i used the limiter the sound was soft on the ears even if i kept it at a high volume.

iPods sold in Europe have lower volume levels because the EU has a law which limits how loud all music players can be to protect people from harming their ears. The US doesn't have a law like that. Besides, the iPod apparently is louder than most other mp3 players because Steve Jobs suffers from some hearing loss so he made sure Apple makes the iPod loud so he can hear his music ok.

Anyhow, I've never used the earbuds that come with the iPod, it's extremely uncomfortable. I use Sony and Sennheiser earbuds.

Seems like the owners will need to shell out extra cash to replace somethings from the ipod.
