View Full Version : Students’ Festival at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex
Kamakazy 21-11-05, 03:15 PM Over 25,000 students trained for months end for the show that was held at the Bausher Stadium yesterday...
I watched the show on TV, I was really excited to watch it, as we did not have a student festival for the last 10 years...
To be frank, I was not impressed by the show, the formations were very simple, it did not reflect anything to do with 35 years of achievements, the ballet show was very limited... and i think many would agree with me that it was a flop...
The only thing that I liked were the costumes... it was different... and the cake display in the end... other than that, it was just many students who spent alot of time practicing day in and day out...
I recall the time when the festival reflected what we have achieved in that year "Year of Heritage" etc... at least the theme was there and the dance reflected on that...
It was not bad.. not very impressive but they did put alot of work into it. My fave remains the 20th student's festival..it was very emotional somehow.

Its the favorite of all time! I was comparing this one with the 20th, nothing can beat that!
cLueLess 21-11-05, 03:47 PM I wouldn't remember the 20th, I was only three then. However, I totally agree with Kama. All that hard work and strict training, and that's what they have to give? Apparently a lot of effort and money were spent, but they certainly did not pay back. The music was good but it was irrelevant and unpatriotic. Disappointing I must say.
Rossonero 21-11-05, 04:51 PM Poor students, their efforts were excellent but the whole show was ridiciulous! Nothing about Oman!
amo_l_oman 21-11-05, 04:58 PM lol I heard many comments like Rosso but dunno why
Ridiculous no, was a show.
H.M. several times checked a book I assume was about the show, as if was searching for something.
But same as on National Day he smiled often which is a good sign :)
The show was great, i loved it. I don't think it was ridiculous. The songs were so touching and were talking about oman, and the 35 years of innovation. They have made alot of efforts to make this show as sucessful as they can. so i think people should have a bit more of patriotism and stop criticizing, and look in the positive side of it.
Kamakazy 22-11-05, 12:43 AM pictures could be seen here (http://www.englishsabla.com/forum/showpost.php?p=586173&postcount=27) as well as here (http://www.englishsabla.com/forum/showpost.php?p=586173&postcount=28), thanks ti3jib for the pics...
I will give it 5/10, I hope that doesn't make it very bad.
PS: blame should not be placed on the innocent students.
Wardat_il'7leej 22-11-05, 10:01 AM I think its about time to change the trainer, since he has been doing this work for a long time and seem to be stale to new ideas even though I must assume that he pockets a lot of money for his work. The efforts made for this 35th National Day were minimal and the performance was less than average, to add insult to injury the music was irrelevant and you can tell that it was sung be children from another country plus some of the performances were too simple even though there was a lot of money going into this project.

ya same thought! He kinda had that wondering face, will it be better or?!?!?!
I think the back ground didn't do much as well this time :(.. I remember when it was us, it was AWSOME (:p)...
ToomuchaT 22-11-05, 04:55 PM .. personally i didnt like it at all.. it wasnt that poor.. but it wasnt up to the standards!
.. abt HM .. the only moment he smiled when the kids were waving at him and i could see a tear was about to drop from his eye! .. i did too!
Kamakazy 23-11-05, 12:04 AM yes toomuchat, i noticed that too... it gave me a warm feeling... so as the ppl who were watching it with me at the time...
I wished I saw it. I missed it but I heard mixed views about it ; some said it wasn't that good but my sister said the opposite. She was mostly impressed by the deaf children where they were expressing a song through sign language. I thought that was creative :)
amo_l_oman 23-11-05, 07:27 AM He smiled but he didn't feel very ok i think, probably tired.
Muscati 23-11-05, 04:32 PM It looked like the best part of the whole celebration was the one which wasn't shown to the public.. Have you guys seen the pictures in today's papers from yesterday's laser show at Al Alam Palace? It looks absolutely spectacular. This is the kind of spectacle they should have had in the stadium for the whole country to enjoy. Instead it was for a private audience.
This is from today's Observer:
The distinguished audience was treated to multimedia extravaganza combining laser displays, fireworks, pyrotechnics and choreographed musical performances. The highlight was a high-altitude fireworks show — the largest ever to be staged in the Gulf and Middle East region. Besides, four orchestras, seven dance ensembles and 600 supporting artistes simulated a series of mythical environments during the show.
Twenty high-performance projectors were deployed to create a gigantic 400m x 100m screen — the world’s widest projection to date — operated by 85 experts. In addition, 50 Ireos headlights — the world’s most powerful — were installed with beams reaching a staggering 70 kilometres in height. Along with 1,000 light systems, and 20 high power laser cannons — deployed for the first time — the result was an unsurpassed visual experience.
Equally stunning were the fireworks and pyrotechnics displays. Around 24.5 tonnes of fireworks and pyrotechnics effects had been earmarked for the show. A total of 135 ignition locations were set up, along with 6.500 ignitions.
The show was organized and produced by Cleverbank, a Greek company that has been involved with large scale events including the "communications strategy, themes, value system, image identity, event management and visual identity of the Bid and Organising Committees of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games."
Apparently there were so many lasers and pyrotechnics in yesterday's display that it would have been visible from the moon!
NiGhTFaCe 23-11-05, 04:41 PM Muscati, reading what the newspaper says makes me feel sorry for not showing this to the public!! Ohh well!
