Traffic in Muscat is getting out of control!

u cant go for a decent drive anymore!

u wanna reach work on time? u better leave home 45 minutes in advance if ur work place is more than 25 km's away!

is anything being planned to solve this crisis?!

The main roads are full of cars & the same goes to the service roads! Lets wait for the new road from Al Qurum to Al Naseem Park, I guess that might help.

There should be minimum 4 highway and as FOR THE O.M.A.N.I people they need minimum 6 to solve the accidents that occurs each minute.

I dont think those new roads will solve the problem!

they said the same about the khuwair flyover, but still khuwair is one of the worst places traffic wise in the mornings & noons!

Sallam,

I think proposing more of a decent public transportation and less private cars to be used would solve the Traffic problem.

We have enough space to have Tram or Train link...

We have enough roads to have more of buses routes and platforms/stations to be build around........

I am not going to included cyclying :D cause people would kill me for this.....:p

I do agree with developing a proper public transport, but lets not forget that the weather in oman doesnt encourage that alot!

epecially during summer its almost impossible to wait outside for a public mean of transportation!

in my opinion, a better manner of engineering the whole road system is required!

The public transport cant be applied by the fully idea of it. Plus for what HITMAN mentioned about the weather, the way how the cities & towns are designed here in Oman is making it more hard!

During the last 10days in Ramadhan, I wanted to go get me a Na'al for Eid from Qurum, Everyday while coming back from Darsait for Tution, I face a heavy traffic in Qurum, So I postpone buying the Na'al to the next day.

I then gave my brother the money and told him how the na'al looks like and he got it for me.

This sucks!

I think as solava mentioned
proposing more of a public transportation and less private cars
in addition to having bridges and Train link
could solve the problem

it is just me or is the traffic worse after ramadhan?

maybe it a direct link to the number of cars sold during ramadhan?

i always hear about how bad the traffic is in the morning comming from Seeb heading towards Ruwi... is it worse now?

I would be ½ an hour late for work if I don’t use various short-cuts in Al-Athaiba to Al-Ghubra and then to Shatti. It doesn’t matter what time you head out in the morning the traffic is just the same and doesn’t seem to move

Train Link would be far too expensive for Oman I think, but a better public transportation system might help things to some extent...but I think the problem is that most people who drive cars aren't interested in taking buses. Unless oil prices go up...

I believe nothing has changed since we last discussed this issue, as a mattaer of fact it has worsened, adding to it the crisis of parking lots!

Actually the South High way road should solve almost 50 % of the traffic + There will be a control of selling cars ( since these days you don’t need down payments , you can get a car on spot) and I heard that driving license age to obtain is 21 not 18 anymore !!

I heard that driving license age to obtain is 21 not 18 anymore !!

That has been a rumor for the past 6 years. I stopped believing in it.

Anyways, I don't think the idea of a 'public transportation' would be a success given the mentality of the people. Locals take the pleasure in driving themselves to work and I don't think they would compromise their comfort for less traffic.

A more efficient road structure is needed to solve this problem.

Hope the rumor will come true as these days 18 years kids driving is scary !!

the problem is ppl drive slow on the fast line... 60-90 on a 115 :p road !!!!

most of the time i reach faster when i use the slow lane.. cuz all the slow drivers are on the fast lane ,,,

if i was a cop ... ppl will start getting tickets for driving slow :D

who would use public transport?

when i was in australia i used to use the bus and taxi alot, coz i didnt have a car in my first semester... but i dont think students would use buses or cars over here...

would you walk from your house to a bus stop down the streat? wait for a bus, to take you to your destination, then walk to your office??? in the early morning??? (btw, the weather is nice in the morning... somewhere between 25~30 degrees)

it might just work...
