View Full Version : National Day Festival and School Children!
Sallam,
As we all know that we are nearly approaching our National Big Day 18/11/05....
And this time is the 35 years of ruling......:) [alhamdullilah]
We all know as well that the Ministry of Education forces the students to join the festival and its celebration/Mahrajan......
This year they had forced most schools in Muscat to participate and only allowed very few to have the choice to either participate or not....
But going back to the forced school they are all primary and elementary schools.... Where the students are between the age of 6/7 to 13/15
What Do you think about the forcing part?
What benift do the students gain apart of extra marks in their certificates?
Isn't there suppose to be a limit to how much pressure they could put on children?
For example in this fasting month, most kids are taken from their homes at about 7pm directly after Iftar time/breaking fast..... and then sent to the stadium for hours and hours, by the time they are sent back home it is already 12 or 1 after midnight, they earliest they could get home is 11:30pm....
then on the next morning they would have to go to school and spend at least 4 hours in school.
How harsh is this on the kids?
What do you think about the whole thing, is it a positive act or a negative act?
Do you think that the time that these kids have after coming back from school, is enough for them to rest and to do their home work?
i have one noticfication why private school students never go for training ?
Sallam,
That is a good note,
Why don't the Ministry of Education involve the private schools students in such event?
What are the differences between them and the government school students? :eh:
Maybe the Government thinks that by funding Government schools , the government school students are obliged to return the favour of a free education. For private schools , the parents pay , so the Ministry/Government has no say on how the students should spend their time.
Basically its like ,"I give you a free education , therefore you are forced to dance for the HM on his birthday."
I guess , nothing goes free now a days :shy:

sallam Empress,
If it was the case, then it is so sad to have such a thought......
So to pay for a free education is to pay back doing things and forcing students to dance even if it was against their own and parents wish!
How sad!

I mean the only difference between Government and Private schools is that one is free and the other one is not. Therefore , that it the only explanation I can come up with...
I agree it is sad , but then imagine , if they weren't forced , no one would participate in the Festivel. I mean no parent would want their children to have such a hectic schedule. I guess , the government does what it has to do to entertain the HM :)

According to dictionary.com , Entertain means
1. To show hospitality to guests.
2. To provide entertainment.
Which means that His HM is a guest being entertained because it is his birthday.
And also entertainment means :
en·ter·tain·ment Audio pronunciation of "entertainment" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (ntr-tnmnt)
n.
3. Something that amuses, pleases, or diverts, especially a performance or show.
Correct me if I am wrong , but isn't the national day celebration a performance. :)
Dictionary.com should be your friend before you come accusing me of false assumptions. Thanks for you time:)
I am a thankful Omani and thankful to the HM and the lord.
Rossonero 29-10-05, 12:59 AM 1-They are not forced.

you are right, i admit. but when you used the word "entertain" it sounded as if u were teasing. I'm just stating the fact that 18th november is the national day of oman and all oman should celebrate this day. cuz its all oman'z birthday not only HM's. thanks empress
Arabian Princess 31-10-05, 10:07 PM one of my life time dreams was to join one of those festavilas, they are memories that you will hold all your life .. few days back I was with some of my friends and they were very happy recalling back those memories.
as long as last year students arent involve, I dont see the big deal out of it .. I mean yes, they will miss classes and all, but the experience overall is so rewarding. after all its every 5 years when they make a big one.
