Yesterday was that day were kids will knock your house asking for sweets and cadies...

This is a tradition that is going on since long time.
and its NOT just in Oman..BUT in many other parts of the Gulf countries.

I dont know the history of this tradition...(I would be gratefull if some one do elaborate about it)

I never participated in it ever.
AND the thing is the words they use to ask for their candy...is Unique...has a rhyme...

ANy one knows the history of this thing?

Qaranqashoo ya nas! :D
The word reminds me of candy..No one knocked on our door yesterday! :mmhmm: Is it on the 15th of Ramadhan or 14th evening?
I don't know how it is and why,I just know that it HAS been going on for as long as I remember and it has something to do with mid-ramadhan!

I think it's a lovely tradition..and should always continue and people should encourge it by buying sweets and giving them out to children. It used to be alot nicer b4 though..and as arby said , we used to go to sabco and they had many functions and the shops all had sweets to give away. Dunno if they still do it..but I hope they do.

I dont think this tradition is that active like the old days. We used to hear loud voices singing. But, I guess no more!

Its is 1: Omani Tradition
2: Been since long time

Now what are the cities that celebrate it? If its an omani tradition then I guess most of the omani cities should celebrate it. In fact, I've never heard of it until 5 years ago. So much for an Omani traditions. As for "been since long time" I don't see any old books mentioning it.

Anyway, personaly I think its making kids happy so there is no harm in it, but I won't teach my kids to beg. :)

F_H, Its forbidden because its a Zionist idea to destroy islam. :D
Give the kids a break and to those who said its forbidden tell them to write books in topics that are important to us rather than wasting their and our time.
