Another strange thing here: if you think it's been awhile that someone actually made an RK thread, then it's surprising no one's even done a thread about one of the most talked about--and arguably one of the most controversial--anime series ever made: Neon Genesis Evangelion. So bombs away to a very intriguing 26 episodes of your life!

It is for sure one of the most interesting, weird and crazy! Anime out there. The deep philosophy, the weird meanings. The amusing ideas that created this anime. Makes it quite unique and still stands out. Along with its characters.

honestly I found it quite boring. I more or less watched it for the mecha and even that I didn't enjoy it that much. There were like too many awkward silences in the anime. I did enjoy its philosophy though but it felt like I was watching a silent movie most of the time. I never got to finish it either.. reached till.. hmmm not sure but its episode 18/19/20 something like that.

Really, you should've watched it all the way to episode 26. It's not a mecha anime per se; in fact, I would say the mecha is merely incidental to the whole series (you'll realize once you see episodes 25 and 26).

^ I know I know.. A friend of mine had the director's cut of the final 2 scenes and I got to watch these not all of them though. I know it has nothing to do with the mecha much like the OVA "voices of a distant star" but the only reason I didn't like it was due to the amount of silences in the series.

Well, the silence is actually part of that atmosphere--sort of like a reflection, or a quiet moment, wherein one tries to gather one's thoughts. It is actually an essential part of the whole series.

yeah I know. It may have suited the mood and all but it certainly has suited my tastes. And the first 10 episodes or so were of Shinji who was still troubled and wasn't incapable of doing anything.. it took quite a while for him to adapt to what he was going through. I understood if the anime had another season then that would have been alright but it took him quite a while as he was always scared of everything even after he got use to what he was going through.

Shinji being scared and unable to do anything is part of the message, which again is seen in episode 26 (sorry, can't spoil what exactly episode 26 is, as it really must be seen to understood the whole context of the series).

I actually enjoyed Evangelion greatly when I watched it, it is very emotional and epic. A must-see for sure for all anime fans.
