View Full Version : Go-Kart Crisis
fatamooo 03-09-05, 05:33 PM I think this story is a bit stale now, but it still shocks me, I don't know if you've heard of it (pretty sure you did, though:p)
Apparently there was this poor girl who was go-karting over at the Automobile Club here in Muscat, and she had her long hair down. Somehow her hair got tangled into the engine of the vehicle (it's all exposed, isn't it?), without taking notice, and when the engine was revved up for her to start her rounds, her hair got pulled off her head, like a wig or something, and just got ripped clean off her scalp, including the layer of skin underneath the hair, and I think some more skin of her face got pulled off too.
This exposed ... umm... whatever exists underneath the hair and skin, I'm guessing some muscle tissue and capillaries and her CRANIUM!!! I'm sorry, but that's just gross  !! Alla yi3eenha :os...
I feel awful for that girl, and I also heard that her own sister saw the whole thing happen, and she got such a severe shock from it, that she fainted, and when she woke up in the hospital later on, the doctors said she now had diabetes!!!!!
What do you guys think of this story?!
Is it possible to develop an illness like diabetes from severe shock?
Seriously, though, aside from the fact that the girl wasn't using her common sense when she let her long hair hang loose (however I'm sure she wasn't expecting that to ever happen), do you think that the Club should hold some responsibility for not warning people about the appropriate attire for such a sport?!
:3mani:
Arabian Princess 03-09-05, 06:08 PM I am not sure if you can get dibities out of shock, but I am some how doubting the exact details of the story ..
as I know, to drive the go-cart car you need to wear a helmate!! and if its not practiced it should ..
Photos of the accident were circulated around via email , right ?
Well, Safety measures should be taken by the club. There should be a rule which states that long hairs should be tied and hair nets should be provided by the club to ensure that hair will not fall loose while driving.
In Australia, every time I go Go-Karting, I am asked to tie my hair and tuck it under my shirt, then I have to wear a clean hair net. Talk about precautions. lol :)
fatamooo 03-09-05, 07:35 PM AP - ya we do wear helmets, but you know the helmet wouldnt fit on my head when I had my hair up in a hair clip, I had to let it down and tie it in a low ponytail, in order for the helmet to slip over my gargantuan head ( :os ) - So... maybe that's why she let her hair down... we won't really know, I guess.
Man, I just feel so bad for her!! I can't believe that actually happened!!!
Paradise Babe 03-09-05, 07:58 PM I heared that the gurl was wearing hijab thats why she refused to wear the helmate! and btw my family visited the gurl and they know her family very well.. the gurls father is a famous doctor and shes only 22 years old..
fatamooo 03-09-05, 08:17 PM Yeah, I heard that she was the daughter of a doctor my mom knows him as well, but PB, if she wears hijab, then how did her hair get stuck in the engine? My friends who wear hijab came with me to the go-kart track could wear the helmets just fine, I mean, it's not like the veil is that thick anyways, right?
Paradise Babe 03-09-05, 08:50 PM they said that her hijab got stuck in the engine! not her hair thats what i heared! and btw her pics after the accident were on a forum and once the mods knew that she was a mohajaba gurl they refused to have the pics on the forum coz they pics were showing her hair and some parts of her head!
and it was weird coz her parents agreed to have the pics all over the net..
MorphaKnight 03-09-05, 10:04 PM those are some sick parents...
those are some sick parents...
What about Public Awareness ?
MorphaKnight 03-09-05, 10:56 PM ^what about privacy? :p
public awareness alright put it in the newspaper but must they actually show pictures? second.. who in their sick mind takes pictures of such a case?
fatamooo 04-09-05, 07:53 AM How come her hair got pulled off if it was her hijab that got stuck? Damn, this is confusing :p...
MorphaKnight 04-09-05, 08:17 AM perhaps the hair is so close to the hijab that they both got pulled in? :p
DeSerTDesTroYeR 04-09-05, 02:17 PM I dont find this issue funny at all. Am suprised to see all those teasing going on. Anyway... I came to know that the girl is actually fine and discharged from the hospital already, alhamdullah :)
Arabian Prince 04-09-05, 02:19 PM I guess due to some contradictions in the whole story, I'm a bit skeptical about this whole thing.
It's obvious there's no doubt about the occurence of the story so far to me.. but how come there have been 7 different versions of the story so far?!
Regarding the safety measures taken while go-karting, wearing a helmet is a must where ever I've been so far. If the girl had both a hijab and a helmet on, then I cant see the possibility of her hair getting caught in the engine.
Besides, if you've ever had a good look at a go-karts engine, its covered up pretty well. The only exposed part would be the rotating belt, which is underneath the plate of metal that covers up the engine. If I'm not mistaken, the uppermost part is the fuel tank.
Now given all that (hoping its correct), how could it have possibly happened?
Arabian Prince 04-09-05, 02:20 PM Al-7amdulillah for her safety :)
fatamooo 04-09-05, 05:28 PM Mmmm DD, where was there any teasing? My comment wasn't sarcastic...
fatamooo 04-09-05, 05:33 PM AP - I'm sure you've been to the automobile club here in Oman, right? Well, I'm sorry to say, but the go-karts there aren't exactly in mint condition :os and they look like skeletons of vehicles or something!! I don't know what real go-karts are supposed to look like, but I always thought the engine didn't have to be exposed like that...
Arabian Prince 04-09-05, 06:35 PM I agree they aren't in mint condition, infact they have never been
But if I'm not mistaken the engines looked like how they're supposed to look last time, as in covered... if thats not the case.. then it explains it all.. :shy:
Its quite disturbing to try to picture it in my head, but it also leads me to think of this... won't any hair caught in the engine be burnt first (hence cut) (The engine is very hot!)
I haven't personally been even close to such experience (with the hair being pulled off) but for some reason, it seems unlikely to happen to me...
Sorry if I sound like I'm doubting all of this, but I'm just semi-shocked.
fatamooo 04-09-05, 07:20 PM Probably cause you're a guy? :p
Anyways, the reason why I brought this up is cause go-karting might be one of our options for P.E. this year, and I'm fairly sure I wouldn't be allowed to do it, because of that incident... Also cos people really should be careful, because carelessness can be a really big cause for accidents.
its a sad story & indeed pics were sent through emails!
perhaps more measures should be taken to avoid further accidents as this one!!
and hopefully moderators will DELETE the posts that r suppose to be deleted without any notice , its not something funny! but i forgot for a while that most on the forum r kids!
fatamooo 04-09-05, 09:17 PM What's so funny!!! Dude, NO one is taking this less than seriously!!!
cLueLess 04-09-05, 09:28 PM It’s scary and I can already imagine the pain she must be in. Pulling one hair out is hell, let alone her whole scalp! I remember a couple of years ago, this girl was involved in a car accident. Her very long hair got twisted around the still turning tyre, and her skull was crushed because she couldn’t escape.
Girls, think twice before deciding to keep your hair long!
Kamakazy 04-09-05, 10:35 PM i saw the pic on e-mail, she must have been in alot of pain...
i also heard another version of the story... in any case, it happened...
so what is Oman Automobile Club going to do for their drivers safety? I heard that it might close down...
Rossonero 04-09-05, 10:38 PM Probably cause you're a guy? :p

Really? we'll have it as an option? But the weather is Hot at that time!
They closed it Kamakazy, for maintenence, as all Circuits have to do REGULAR maintenence.
Whether true or not , just reading about it freaks me out and gives me the chills.
fatamooo 05-09-05, 07:34 AM Well they should close it to do something about the vehicles - and also to maybe put up some signs and inform the people who work there to double check the customer's safety before letting them go off. I mean, we're going there for fun, but this is a kind of sport where you can risk your life, no matter how fun. I hope this is a wake up call for all the incompetence that goes on here.
If this happened in the states, not only would the place probably be shutting down, but they would be bled dry from all the lawsuits they would be hit with - not that the money is the most important thing, but somebody's gotta pay for all the poor girl's surgeries and her sister's treatments as well.
I mean, one little mishap, and her life and her family's is going to be changed forever. :( Poor thing...
NiGhTFaCe 05-09-05, 01:46 PM I am not in a position of blaming anyone. But, I think for the 1st place that girl should have put a helmet, & for the people there they werent supposed to allow her driving the vehicle without wearing one.
I believe for the karts, you just need to follow these,
Wear a helmet
Have a control on the vehicle
Be sure you dont touch the engine
