Here in town, there is this persistent rumor I hear from most people I meet. Its this highly anticipated forthcoming Makruma samyaa that is said to be granted by MAWLANA JALATULSULTAN during the coming 35th anniversary of the national day 18th Nov 2005.

Of course, no one is privy the inner sanctum here in forum or in the streets of town to know about such windfalls, to the Omani. Yet again the wild imagination [though positive] is unleashed with unparalleled gusto. Perhaps there is something to it, perhaps not. Behavioral sciences suggest there should be some grain indication to ignite such mass excitement.

I talked to some of those who whispered this good omen down my patient ears. “What made you think so?” “ What tale-tale signs have you noticed?” "in what form would the Makruma come?” “I.e. one month double or triple salaries to all?”


They tell me; one major factor is the extra-ordinary high fuel prices we are earning per barrel now and past many months. Two, is the healthy economic indicator just forecast by IIF for all AGCC, which says GDP is to grow by more than one- third in 2005/6. Three, being the number 35, half the number 70 (read 1970)


Whatever the case, I know this issue has an impact with every salaried Omani and its imperative you share your thoughts with us.

I've been hearing this for years .. but until is announced whatever is said is just rumours!!

Yalla its about time and our economy looks good why not H.M is generous and we deserve it :) The electricity and water prices has to come down as well ... After all we are less than 2 million citizens right ?

I think its more related also to the 5 year Jubilee fact. As in the 30th, as far as I remember goverment sectors got a an extra fully salary or something around that. So cause its now 35th, there is a chance of something similiar to take place.

We have something similar in Italy for example in Xmas many have a double salary, so called 13th, or when the government is desperate cause too many cheat on taxes, they say ok we'll not bite you but please come and confess.

I think it would be wider to invest the windfalls of the high oil price in development projects which will last, otherwise the only beneficiaries will be the agents of Sony, Toyota and Starbucks.

Well a gift every now and then, and made as money, and people waiting for it, gives me the impression that something wrong in economy.
And infact for my country is not a bed of roses.
So i was wondering if these acts, with due respect to H.M., might only make more damages than benefit.

All Saudi employees were awarded a 15% pay rise on Monday in a bid by King Abdullah to improve living conditions and give the national economy a kick start.

"We have decided to increase all salaries of Saudi public employees, both for civilians and military servicemen, as well as the retired by 15 percent," said the royal decree published by the state news agency SPA.

The increase, which will come into effect with the holy month of Ramadan, does to members of the Shura council, but Ministers, executive officials and those amongst the higher earning bracket will not benefit from the new decree.

The royal decree meant that housing, health and education projects would also benefit from a 22 billion handout.

King Abdullah also increased capital of the industrial development fund to USD 5.33 billion, and allocated USD four billion to support Saudi exports.

As far as I remember there wasn't a bonus salary on the 30th National Day and the exact same rumours as we're having this year happened that year as well.

Let's face it, the man doesn't like grand gestures like that so stop dreaming of them. Maybe when people stop spreading talk like that that's when he'll finally surprise the people with one.

if the handout will be for all Omanis working and non working then let us all benifit the fruit of our country.. But if it goes only to woking class then they shouldnt be any %.

Second Instead of giving that money out, we need first to clear and pay all Govt. Loans.

Third its the Money should go towards Construction all remaining Major Roads to connect Region to Region, especially Double road Sohar to Buraimi, and Nizwa to Ibri, also Connecting Rostaq to Ibri and speed up of Quriat to Sur this are place where money should be spent Instaed of Individual.. :o :50bz:

Muscat, Oct 18 (ONA)---Dr. Khamis bin Mubarak al Alawi, Housing, Electricity and Water Minister, said that the Royal grant by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said to the families of social security came to emphasize His Majesty’s keenness that all citizens will benefit from the wealth of the homeland, saying that the blessed renaissance prosperity has covered all parts of the country.

He added in statement to Oman News Agency (ONA) that the grant of residential, residential and commercial land plots to social security families came in accordance with specific regulations which took into account the social and economic aspects in selecting these families.

He said that 9,096 residential land plots and 6,904 residential commercial land plots were allocated for 16,000 of these families in the Sultanate’s 59 wilayats.

He noted that these land plots will be granted to beneficiaries as per lot which will be cast by the Housing, Electricity and Water Minister and Lt. General Malik bin Suleiman al Ma’amari, Inspector-General of Police and Customs in the presence of the real estate secretary, the director-general of lands and housing at the Ministry. Ownership documents will be handed over to beneficiaries via the housing directorates and departments in the governorates and regions.

Dr. Al Alawi added this grant reflects His Majesty’s concern with his subjects and their needs, noting that His Majesty’s directives to the government have resulted in many educational, health, social and economic and cultural achievements during the past 35 years.

Ya3ni someone who has a salary of 700 might get 300 rials.

So is it, the higher the salary the higher the grade? i.e.the more money u get? or what

No it means since the lower your salary the lower basic would be, then you should get more than one multiple.

Say your salary is 1000 rials and you end up getting a bonus of 500, you might be happy with the 1 salary makruma. But if your salary is just 200 of which maybe less than 100 is basic, getting a makruma of 1 basic salary doesn't add up to much. That's why the rumor says lower salaried people would get two basic salaries as makruma.

Of course that's if the rumor's true.

I doubt it, might increase spending but not prices because its risky to increase prices for short period of time and then go back to your normal prices!

The prices my rise a little but not much (say like 50 baisa extra), but if you look at it 20% means the overall salary will increase as employess are also getting the normal yearly increment.

It's arabic, the word samyaa came from the word sumow which means something above or high and also came from the word sama'a (sky), so it's arabic ;).

It reflects His Majesty the Sultan’s keenness and continuous follow-up of the conditions of citizens, which has been the norm since the start of the Sultanate’s renaissance in 1970s.

The aim is to let the people feel they are part of the ongoing development, to instill in them the love of the homeland and to encourage them to work harder towards the rebuilding, progress and prosperity of their country. The Royal gesture, which adds to happiness on the advent of Eid al Fitr, is symbolic of the many glorious aspects of the Sultanate’s renaissance.

Royal Amnesty to Prisoners


Muscat, Nov 1st (ONA)--- His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said has given a Royal amnesty to a number of inmates who were convicted in various cases.

A total of 408 Omani and 54 prisoners from other nationalities were freed as per this Royal amnesty which comes on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr and the advent of the 35th National Day, to add to His Majesty, the Supreme Commander’s continued grants.

Eid mobaarak to mawlana his majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin said - god protect him. and Eid mobarak to all the sabla members, and to all the omaniz and muslims around the world.
