Sallam,

If you were to gift foreigners that you got to meet and know a gift from your country, what would it be?

*hint: either these foreigners had the chance to visit your country or you were visiting theirs? :)

Actually maybe I should add that Idon't know many foreigners who really like halwa. Something small made in Oman from silver by traditional craftsmen would be a lovely gift, like a muka7il. It's a nice meaningful souvenir, showing a bit of history

I agree with Star and Mr Milano about the bukhoor etc, too- it's not expensive but very nice and you can give it with the majmar/mabkhara like Ibn Berlusconi said.

Nice people aren't you? :)

Sallam dear,

So what can you gift a female visitor? :)

Solly,

You can buy a silver muka7il in any traditional souq and they don't have to be expensive. They certainly have them in ma6ra7 - I got one there myself. And you can get the ku7l to go with it of course for 500bz or whatever. If you want to give one to a man, then you can get some made out of old bullet cases, especially in markets out of Muscat like Nizwa. They make a really unique souvenir, and again not expensive.

What would I give someone from my country? I'm not sure really...the part where I come from is famous for a sweet called fudge with clotted cream. I always bring some back to Oman with me!

I think I'll go for a mai ward bottle, dallet coffe, majmar or one of those big frames with a khanjar or something inside.

I would mostly go for different silver crafts which are not so expensive as Mimo explained but are beatiful and meaningful ..

bukhour is very risky because not everyone likes or accepts the smell of bukhour ..

the frames is a good idea too

for women i would gift her a silver/gold pendant with her name in arabic (you can get that done in sabco, ccc, muttrah) or khanjar, camel, palm tree pendants/bracelets, something that would represent oman. However, for men, i would give key chans, cufflinks... but with something that represents oman. Some ppl like books, so a coffee table type of book on Oman, Sceneries of Oman, Oman's history and watnot.. is always a good presie

Other than the traditional Omani silver crafts, there are shops that sell chocolate stuffed with dates, date juice and other date products. I think that's one delicious present!

I don't like those khanjars in frames, because they are normally rubbish khanjars. If it's a khanjar you want to give it would be nicer if it were the real thing, but they are not cheap.

You can get a set of very small silver khanjars, crossed swords etc in little frames, which if they are real silver make nicer presents for either gender i think.
