As you all know, the Thanawiya Amma results are due in two weeks
Things were pretty messed up thefirst term, so the ministry decided to make things different for the second term.

- What do you think the ministry's going to do about it?
- Do you think students who got over 95% are still goin to get the same marks?
- How are the colleges and university goin to manage with all those students who want to attend?

Most of them will sit at home.

i heard its really tough for students in oman ,, where they have to get high marks to be able to study in colleges and universities

05-07-05, 01:20 AM
...and the students have to pay. It isn't really fair because the good students who worked very hard and the not-so-good ones who might have taken it easy got pretty much the same marks, and will both end up sitting at home or attending med school, depending on how lucky they are!! Let's just see how things turn out.

Good luck all. I heard, for SQU, there may be entrance exams. Which is good, I think, provided the exams are fair. If you did well in thanawiyah, you can repeat your performance in the entrance exams.

Results has been out this noon and they are all unexpectedly horrible. I heard that so many students got really a bad grades than the first term. Eeveryone is almost shocked and disappointed, the reduction seemed to take a fitting curve statistics ( i.e; first term 99%, second term 90% and expect even less ! ). I know some people who their grades got decreased by really a big amount of percentage!

What do you think of this? Does this "worst" grades has something to do with the results on the first term? Do you think they want to balance or I mean go with the same annual statistical curve for the results?

I'm extremely mad and pissed off from the grades and they're ain't fair

I don't understand why do they have to have entrance exams. You did those thanawiyah exams for university, it's like putting students through hell once again.

The thanawiyah system should just have been done fairly from the start, without these great enhancements and the reverse.

What I think was not fair was the great enhancements in the first time that over 1000 people got over 99% giving false hopes. I guess the moe decided to be realistic now and the students have been the victim.

ya where they gonna go!
USQ just take 2000 student
other colleges take less then that!
and about 30,000 gonna go to no where in oman
and they r asking us why do u study out of oman!!!!!

It is not the government duty to teach all the Sultanat student for free!! C'mon this is un realistic! Its duty is to provide study chances for the students Either complete or partial scholarships, inside or outside the Sultanate. Other students thinking of majors don't exisit in Oman so definitely they gonna go abroad!

SQU takes about 3000 students & there are plans to increase the persentage this year.
There are 3 Higher college of technical other than the one in Muscat which gonna take few 1000s for sure!
Oman Medical college gonna take students from local scholarships!
Nizwa & Sohar University will take few 1000s for sure!
Other private colleges in Muscat are always available & facilitate financial study loans for students which is a good thing.
Ministry of health & nurse institute is also opening its doors for the students.
pharmaceutics institute also available in town.
Other institutes like hostelry & Sales deploma now every where!

The list will go on but there are many chances people don't think of SQU as the only choice cauz it is not always the best choice for your information

Good luck for all our 3ed sec. brothers & sisters who graduated this year!

It is not the government duty to teach all the Sultanat student for free!!

Then the duty of whom?

Does other countries have this problem?

Is Oman population very large?

How about poor people, who can't afford private education?

Namika
11-07-05, 03:02 PM
I say for those who can afford to go abroad or go to private colleges and universities they should go for it. this way they can leave the chance for the ones who cant afford.

.. congrats for the graduates.. wish u all the best ur coming stages! :)

.. BR.. i wish someone *one who can afford* can accept ur idea.. it's cool tho.

.. anyways.. i think the results were just fair.. the thing abt them, that in first semester they were messed up.. but they got corrected and students were treated fairly..

.. my sister got 93% in 1st semester.. now she got 91% without the english subject because she didnt attend it coz she was ill.. i think after doin her reset she might get the same result as her 1st semester!.. hopefully!

.. one more thing.. IMPRESSIVELY, it seems girls doin better than boys this year *wayine ayam zamaana.. ma yilhin kilmah lol* .. well done!

.. abt the huge number of graduates.. what was it last year?.. 63000 graduates!! .. that hurts real bad! .. i think the governement will face a huge challenge the next comin years!

.. el7ilwa, i guess u said: It is not the government duty to teach all the Sultanat student for free!! .. well i do agree with that.. but also it has to force other focal points like banks for example to give loans without interest for those students who cant get the chance of the free educaion.. of course there will be conditions on that loan..

.. but personally, i see it a big problem i go to the bank and get a loan to complete my study.. say 6000 RO + interest of at least at leats of 2000 RO so in total abt 8000 RO .. takin that situation.. when will that student be able to sort out his life.. house, wife, car.. etc..

.. some ppl do it.. but u will find them sinking in debt pools.!! .. personally, i consider debt to be the worst nightmare ever!

They need to build more universities in Oman!

Namika
11-07-05, 09:57 PM
Chatty, some may not think the way you do. I mean about the results being fair.. I know a girl who worked really hard this semester and she was expecting to get more than last semester according to how she did in the exams. But what she got was a shock to her :(

catrina, there are universities but all are private ones except for SQU. Like there is Suhar uni and Dhofar as well.. But who can afford them..

toxic_honey
11-07-05, 11:25 PM
in oman we donna have lot of universties! and few of them r 4 free
most of them u should pay to study and if u didnt they will kick u out!
if our country cant get us that who should !!!
some of the students study buy their own money! but not all of the students cant get money to study and if they got it they got it in a hard way to just study!

everything that we have to do or get is hard
first they donna help us at schools they give us hard exams and hard subjects!
and every year they let it harder!
and then after we finish we should wait till ever to know if they accept us in any uni or college in oman...
its about 60,000 students graduate from 3rd sec!
lets say about 30,000 will study in oman...and not all of them 4 free
what about the others!

they study out side or just stay coz they cant pay to study in and private unis or colleges out of oman!

oman really need to bulid more UNIs and colleges!

Just bcz a person's able to scrape by 2 or 3 thousand rials for his kid's education at Sultan School doesn't necessarily mean he can also afford 10 thousand a year for a college education abroad as well.

Anyhow, the case described above is probably a one off by a really mean employee who should be disciplined. Generally, the scholarships department doesn't look at your parents income level when determining whether to give you one or not. This is not necessarily a good thing. It really sucks when someone who's ultra rich chooses to get a scholarship for his kids' university education instead of paying for it themselves.

el7ilwa
12-07-05, 12:14 PM
Ice Tea I said above the government duty is to provide education chances for all students & that would be either locally or abroad * I guess I've mentioned that in my list!* & for poor people who get support from the government they can get the education for their children also freely in some private college.
If the government gonna teach 60,000 student every year for free I don't think we will afford to complete constructiong small paved road!

The problem is all region's girls wanna be teachers & guys wanna end up in a comfy office! No one of them thought of taking the majors needed in the country & holded by expatriates! *Few do*

Too MuchChat loans installments are more easier for the students now adays & there are contracts between them & the college u want to attend to give u the best facilities! students should start thinking in mature way & depend on them selves not looking for the easiest chances so he find any job to get married & live the rest of his life that way!!! people dig in the rocks to get the best chances & be even better than they expect! The prb that most Omanies are not ambitious!! they think of getting married & buying a car *most ppl in other countries think of marriage after 30!*

Muscati u said it by your self US try to teach Most not all & we can't compare the economy of US to Omani economy!! More over, we all now that the population of Oman is composed of teenagers & youth unlike many countries which causes the country a big prb to keep its services up to the line!

PPL I under stand your feelings especially I have got a sis who got her Grade this year & not sure it's gonna let her join the University! So what! there are many other options out their as long as she study the thing she likes!

It is a point Ive noticed that el7ilwa mentioned - lots of girls seem to want to be teachers. Which isnt a bad thing, but Im just not sure why this is. A teacher is one of the most important jobs I reckon, but it aint the only job that needs to be done. Does the government have some sort of incentive system, where they offer scholarships to students willing to study less popular majors?

el7ilwa
12-07-05, 01:26 PM
I've heard that they gonna change the teaching colleges to Multimjaors colleges like translations & other scinces which is very coOl.

My advice for students who didn't think of a major yet to take "Humen Resources" cauz the need for it is increasing in town Market!

Thanwiya 3amma is not the end of the world, its just the beginning. I got a super high mark, much more than many i know like 7 years ago, but some of those are now doing better in terms of academic achievments and some get double pay to what I get. So, it's just the beggining, and don't be too upset.
